Chlamydia pneumonia
Okay,
I don't know if I am way off in posting this but I really want to know if this is something else that anyone has heard about from their doctor.
6 months ago I was diagnosed with IC after no doctor could figure out why I had all the acute symptoms of a UTI and no present infection (like everyone else, it was very frustrating). Since then, my symptoms have morphed into something that I didn't really know how to expect. My bladder problem seemed to have almost ceased after starting Elavil, but now I have a host of chronic pain problems, intense dizziness, facial pain, strange headaches, ear pain, foot pain etc...MS has been ruled out from an MRI, I've been to a neurologist etc..
The one thing that keeps showing up in my blood is high antibodies to the non sexually transmitted Chlamydia pneumonia. I had never heard of this but in doing some research, a lot of doctors are convinced that it can lie dormant in the body for a long time and come back and CAUSE chronic diseases like IC and MS and Fibro...she wants to put me on a long term course of antibiotics against the Chlamydia P to see if it cures me. But I want a second opinion to see if she in fact might be nuts. Has anyone ever heard of this?? I need help.

I think it never hurts to seek a second opinion, and I can understand your concern as there are some dangers associated with long-term antibiotic use, but I did want to say that I have heard of Chlamydia pneumonia, and saw a study or two done on it that possibly implicates this agent in Interstitial Cystitis.
Since we don't know for certain yet what triggers the anti-proliferative factor production, and in fact there may also be several different diseases all under the IC "umbrella," I would be reluctant to ever say, "it can not possibly be caused by this...."
Do you feel comfortable discussing your concerns with your doctor? Sometimes it helps just to be able to really lay things out on the table about treatments.
Wishing you good luck,
Blessings,
Lori

I think I would go for a second opinion. there have been several theries about how IC comes about, but so far in the last 30 plus years no one has any concreate evidence.
