Ulcerative IC surgery

I am having laser surgery Fri. for Hunner's ulcers in my bladder. It was diagnosed with a scope in the office and WOW it hurts SO MUCH. I'm taking Neurontin, Elmiron, Eurelle, Tramado, Loritab, Trazadone, Muscle relaxer at night. I also have Fibro, and Osteo Arthritis, and have had surgeries for the OA. This has thrown me for a loop. I can't excape the pain and am hoping this proceedure will help. Has anyone here had this done and how did it help??

I hope your surgery goes well. My understanding is that many have relief from the surgery but in some cases the hunners come back and some end up doing the proceedure again. Other than Laser surgery patients surveys seem to say that rescue instillations are the treatment of choice...Just letting you know. I hope you get relief and get a lot of improvement.

I've done the instilations for a year and even did them myself for a while until I got too nervous and hated it. It cost me $35 everytime I do one and have had to do double doses twice a week. Sure hope this laser treatment works. I'll let you know

The first pee, after surgery, may sting quite a bit. This is because the wounds where the ulcers were removed are healing, but a few pees later and it's fine : )

I have had mine lasered multiple times and the relief was wonderful. I usually had mine done in conjunction with a hydrodistention and had decent pain control for about 6 months.

I had ulcers burned off (fulgurated) during my hydro. I had complications with retention and ileus and week hospital stay after the hydro, so mine was not a "normal" recovery and took quite a few months before I began feeling better. I do still get mini flares that are taken care of pretty quickly (like within a day) if I take all my meds and watch my diet, but since the long recovery, I have never had the sharp stabbing pains that I got before the hydro and only have to take my meds as needed now. So maybe, who knows, the removal of the ulcers is why I don't get those debiltating pains anymore. I still have other symptoms, but not extreme stabbing pain like before. I hope they don't come back, because I dread another hydro. I have not done installations, but would consider doing them to avoid having another hydro. Please don't think I'm trying to scare you, complications are rare, so I have been told, and you will most likely get thru this fine, with maybe just some extra pain from having the ulcers burned off.
Just as a side note, I don't believe I got the "therapuetic" effects from the hydro that some IC paitients do.

Yahoo, It's over! It went really well, however the first day I was on Loritab and it kept me pretty well undecontrol, but drugged. Yesteday rested and today am back to normal. WOw I didn't think it would be so immideate. I'm still sore, but no japping bladder pain. Thank yu for allyour hlp and good thoughts. The doc said I had very large bladder capacity, which is a good thing. 3 ulcers and he fixed me right up. Now if I could get the fibro back under control...... Thanks again to everyone.

I sure hope others can get as good a response. I'm only 48 hours after surgery, and I'm really optomistic. :woohoo:
