anyone bothered by semen?
I know this is pretty graphic,
but I'm wondering if anyone has problems with their partners semen (specifically after) intercourse? I always have the usual burning after intercourse......but it seems 100X worse if my husband ejaculates inside rather than outside.
Any feedback is appreciated on this- thanks!!!

I don't personally have this problem, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Semen contains some irritating substances, such as minute amounts of ammonia, and probably salts/potassium or other things like that. Also, I have no idea, but it's possible that semen could be somewhat acidic.
The semen could be irritating the outside of your genitals, also - many of us find we are rather raw not just in the urethra and bladder, but in surrounding areas as well. All of that can contribute to the pain.
Blessings,
Lori

to the ICN!
I have heard stories of this before...I would first want your partner to get tested...just in case he is giving you a little something even though he doesn't have any symptoms. The other thing is WE CAN BE ALLERGIC TO ANYTHING or just have an intollerance to anything...even semen. I know you are not alone with having this reaction. Lori's theory makes perfect sense too and like her I don't know if that is it or what. I do think we should trust our instincts and if it seems to you that something bothers you than your right...your the one that would know! Have you tried an antihistamine as part of treatment before? It is something I take mainly only when I have sex. If acid isn't it that would be the next thing I would try besides asking my partner to get tested.
Hope you can find a sollution and feel better

Katrina

Thank you so much for being brave enough to post the question :**
Very interesting. I pretty much immediately have a sea salt bath. If and when I can have sex which is very very rarely and I always pay big time. The bath helps tremendously in several ways.
To the person that suggested semen testing - what exactly is the test called?
The other thing I would like to mention is it majorly depends on what your partner ingests within - say - 24 hrs prior. I have noticed a difference depending on what he has eaten or drank.
Again thank you for your bravery and to those who answered the original post.

I definetly have the same problem, and not always. This leads me to believe as the previous poster said about what my husband has drank that day. I think the killer is when he guzzles coffee at work.

Semen and Citric Acid
I found out from a little book that has random medical facts that semen contains citric acid.....a known IC irritant...(hence we are told to avoid it in our diets). So that could be why you have so much trouble with it.

I suggest testing the semen for bacteria and any kind of "bug". You wouldn't be looking for something specific but since you are affected by something in it if it happens to be that your partner is passing you a small amount of bacteria or something each time that is easily fixable...and very possible. I know there have been times where people have found this was what was going on that have discussed it on the antibiotic board.
one thing is certain...anything is a possible trigger to a flare and if you can figure out what yours is you can avoid them...so THANK YOU for posting this you have probably helped many others figure out what may be causing some of their flares too

I have the same problem. I just make my partner wear a condom and that seems to help!

Semen is alkaline not acidic. I don't know what all it contains for possible irritants. Could it contain citric acid, yet still be alkaline?

most things that are alkaline become such in the body....they are acidic...but change within the body...at least they normally do. Minerals...such as calcium help that hapen.
Test your mans semen ph.
Can it contain citric acid and still be alkaline...possibly....my guess is that too alkaline in that area may increase risk of infection.Faith, Hope, and Love,
