Question about Duragesic patch
This is a question for all the Duragesoc patch user who switched to Oxycontin or Methadone. Did anyone have withdrawals?
Was diagnosed with IC in 1993 after extensive endometriosis and total hysterectomy.
MEDS: Attarax, Zantac, Zanaflex, Oxycontin, Lortab, Urimax and daily instillations of Lidocaine, sodium bicarbinate and heparin (lifesavers)
Have used Elmiron & Elavil w/o any improvement
Now have a possible dx of fibromyalgia. Working on confirming that or hopefully ruling it out

Hi Kimchi,
I had no w/d's when I switched. But I DID have w/d's when I was first put on duragesic b/c it takes so long to get in your system. I hadnt taken anything since the night before and by 12 noon, I was in big trouble. I called the doc and he said to go ahead and take one oxycontin and that helped.
Are you thinking of switching? My doc said no way on the patch yesterday when I asked about trying it again. I didnt find it all that effective.
Hang in there hun. Please PM me if you need to talk.
Love Sarah

you know how much trouble I have had getting to see the Dr and not the nurse who just gives me my refills. I finally have an appt to see my pain Dr on 8/23 and I have the recommendation letters in hand from the uro I saw in June to switch me to the methadone. I will be very glad to get off the stupid patch! If he won't do it for me, I have a back up plan! I was a little worried about withdrawals.

Well I am happy you have a back up plan. That is just so wrong that you cant see YOUR DOCTOR!! I mean, what is he the doctor for, if you cant even see him when you have a problem. I dont see why he wouldnt give you methadone or oxycontin, if he gave you the patch. I think they are all in similar boats, you know?
I hope you can get this figured out. It hurts me to see my fellow pain sisters suffer like this. I always tell my hubby I am going to become a pain doc so i can help all my IC girls, lol. Then the DEA would be on my behind though, huh?
Please keep us posted Kimchi

Thanks Sarah. I will let you know what happens. How are you doing on the Dilaudid? Have you gone back to work yet?
