Anyone take Prelief all the time?
Does anyone take Prelief all the time, even with meals that should be okay? I'm just starting to try to figure out the diet, and much of the time I will eat something that gives me some pain, but I'm not sure what ingredient did it. I know about the IC diet and I'm trying to stay away from the not ok foods, but it seems like most things give me some problems. I'm wondering if I should just start taking Prelief before every meal for a while to see if that helps. Would this have any beneficial long term effects? If I can get my pain under control using Prelief for a while, then maybe I can start experiementing with different foods.

Yep...I still do. I keep my IC under control with the IC diet (and cheat foods
) but I always have at least 2 bottles in the house. I do not get any side effects from it.
If you are new to IC..I would stay away from NO foods.Minds are like parachutes-they ony function when they are open.

Good Morning!
I just wanted to jump in for a minute in response to Lisa's posting.
Prelief is an over-the-counter supplement (calcium glycerophosphate) that takes the acid out of acidic foods and beverages. Our recommended dosage is to take at least 2 Prelief tablets with meals (and snacks). Prelief is taken with all meals, regardless of foods eaten, because while some foods are obviously acidic (e.g. juices, coffee, etc), other acidic foods are not readily recognizable as such (e.g. chocolate, baked beans, etc). The calcium in Prelief is a beneficial bonus; each tablet provides 65 mg of fully available calcium.

I just wondered if you can take too many prelief, say you have an extra coffee or acidic snack and take maybe four more. Can you make your urine too alkaline? can this cause infections?

Although our recommended dosage is to take 2 Prelief tablets with each meal and snack, more can be used when needed. There are no use limitations except for people who have been advised by their doctor not to take calcium, phosphorus or glycerin/glycerol.
As far as we know, there is no effect whatever on the pH of urine when a patient with or without IC takes Prelief. In one prospective IC clinical study that was started in Philadelphia, urine pH's were taken and not only were not raised by Prelief, they were in fact marginally, but not significantly lower - the urine was slightly more acid. Nonetheless, the patients' symptoms either decreased or disappeared, clearly indicating that the problems in IC are not a function of abnormal urine pH, but rather the decreased tolerance of the urinary epithelial cells of an IC patient to withstand the relatively mild acid challenge of normal urine. Prelief is clearly doing more than just taking acid out of foods, but since Prelief is not a drug, such a statement on the label or in advertising is not possible within present FDA regulations. Substantial experience both in the clinic and outside it, confirms Prelief's value in "promoting urinary health".

Dear Ty:
Prelief is an over-the-counter supplement (calcium glycerophosphate).
Prelief is not available for sale in Canada , but you can order Prelief over the Internet at www.prelief.com (1-800-994-4711). You can also try www.wholesalesupplementstore.com (800-800-9688). They ship internationally and sell Prelief at a discount. Unfortunately, the only way to avoid shipping charges would be to go into the states (as many Canadians do, if it is not too far). Prelief is available in the states at all Walgreens, RiteAid pharmacies, and Fred Meyer stores (and others).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me direct.

Dear Sue1:
Canadian shipping and handling can be quite costly (approximately $34.00). We ship everything UPS Worldwide Express which provides tracking capabilities and has a 2-3 day transit time.
You might want to contact Pure Nature in Windsor, Ontario, 519-972-8696.

Dear Jules:
I cannot explain the problem you seemed to have experienced. That is not a common side effect of Prelief.
Perhaps one of the 'ICers' on the Message Boards can offer some insight.

jules...Are you drinking enough water? I know when I don't drink enough liquids, my urine is very yellow, burns and smells strong. You need to drink an amount that will dilute your urine. The amount that does this varies. Some say 8 ounces, some less. For me, it is less.
