newly diagnosed
hello.
my name is jennifer and i'm new to this site. i'm from new york and work in publishing. i was diagnosed with ic less than one month ago after six months of treatment for bladder infections. i found a new urologist and, after a cystoscopy, was diagnosed with ic. i find it hard to deal with on my own so i wanted to come on here and say hi. i'm currently on ditropan and atarax for the symptoms and hope i won't need elmiron, but i think i will one day. the bad part about the timing of this is that i'm twenty-eight years old and have never had a boyfriend until this past year. we are still together and trying to make it work, but ic has pretty much destroyed the relationship. i feel sad about this, and i hope he continues to stay with me. anyhow, i look forward to reading all your posts and will continue to explore the forums. for now i feel like i'm just hanging on, but i know it will get better, because it has to.
thanks so much for reading,
jennifer

Welcome! Sorry you're here!
I just wanted to jump in and say that Elmiron for many people isn't anything to dread taking, or at least trying out. I didn't have any side effects from it at all. It didn't work, but it didn't hurt either!
As for relationships: It can be rough. But remember that we all have our problems. My husband puts up with my pain, I put up with the fact that he's a slob. If he's worth it, he'll love you anyway.
Good luck with getting some relief!

thanks so much for your reply. it's nice to hear you didn't have side effects from elmiron. i see the urologist again in two weeks and will have to discuss it with him. the ditropan and atarax haven't helped all that much yet.
thanks again!

Welcome Juskin..............sooooooooooo sorry to hear you are so sick so young.
I hope you'll get much needed help and please ask about CHLORPACTIN Treatments.
I was in remission for 13 years until a dye contrast test last week that sent it into a whirl.
They worked for a long time and if I don't get over this flare soon, I'll be going back for more.
It was INSTANT relief that lasted about 3 months for me. After 18 months I never went back again..............I didn't need to.
BLessings to you and health too, Chocolat 57Blessings, Chocolat57

Hey! Nice to meet you. I am 25 and newly diagonsed. I am engaged and he has been wonderful. But I know that he doesn't understand how IC feels. No one does but people who have it. If your boyfriend is right for you then it will work out. I am on Elavil and Derol. I haven't had great results. I am wanting to try Elmiron, and I going to ask for after my cysto w/ hydro has been done. I think Detrol is similar to Ditropan. Not sure though. What are your symptoms? Welcome and good luck.

hi!
so nice to meet you, also. i was on detrol for about one week and it actually seemed to help me more than the ditropan. i'll have to wait and see with some time.
basically, last august i suddenly felt like i had to pee all the time and little would come out, if any. so, it was mainly an urgency issue. then it turned to problems holding it at all. i would leak urine all the time. then i went for a urine test and it said i had an infection, but i was kind of skeptical of that because i'd had a couple of urine infections as a kid, and i felt this was different.
so i went to a urologist who treated me with a ton of antibiotics, told me to drink cranberry juice, etc. after six months, i felt sicker. he continued to prescribe anaspaz for me as well as this medication called pyridium. i decided to get a second opinion.
the doctor told me it sounded like ic, but he wasn't sure. so, i had a cystoscopy that basically showed me that my bladder is really sick.
my main symptom is leakage at the moment. the meds must be helping with the urgency. but to be twenty-eight years old and leaking urine is a terrible situation. i like to stay active and do stuff and live a normal life, even though i have bipolar disorder and have had that for ten years.
i am hanging in there, but i hope something will work soon.
congratulations on your engagement. my boyfriend says he wants to marry me one day. i hope it happens. he's been terrific so far, but i've been in such a bad mood and have taken a lot of stuff out on him. i almost lost him a few times.
