Auto Immune and IC
HI all,
I will try and make this short as possible.
I went to my DR yesterday and brought with me my thyroid scan and thryoid ulta sound.
I have 2 Nodules in my right thyroid that have to be biposy..he wants to do another ultra sound and due the biopsy at the same time to be sure he is getting in the right area.... okay I knew that was going to happen.. the thing that shocked me is he said my thyroid gland is not smooth its rubbery and that its consistant with auto immune disease were the body attacks itself.
hmmm I am wondering what the correlation is with the IC some Drs think that is auto Immune too.
if the biposy cames back cancerous Dr said he will remove that part of the thyroid.
I don't go for the test til March 22nd my nerves are very shot right now..so do I now need to think I may get another disease. Im sooooooo tired of it all the IBS and the IC was bad enough now this.
I was told that I couldn't take any blood thinners a week before the procedure.. Is Elmerion a blood thinner.
thanks for listeningCyndie

HI Cyndie,
Yes Elmiron is a blood thinner, a mild one. I would consult your physician about whether or not you should continue it....please consult your doctor regarding that.
I have been researching IC and auto-immune related diseases ALOT lately. Interestingly, it is often found with other auto-immune diseases. Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Lyme disease and others.
I am getting checked for those here in a few weeks. Hopefully your doctor can figure out what else is going on.......if there is another problem.
Feel better!

I had my thyroid removed in 1994 due to cancer. IN fact there are 5 of us in this building which (is highly unusual) that have had thyroid cancer. I've had several operations and the thyroid was the easiest. I'm thankful my doctor took the whole thryoid because I know 2 others here had half of theirs taken out, then 2 weeks later had to go back and have the surgery again and have the other half removed. I will have a body scan this year and hopefully everything will still be ok. My dr.does one every 2 years. Hopefully yours will not be cancer. You are in my prayers.Pam

Auto Immune and IC
Thank you for your responces..
so if we have 2 of these diseases together is there more of a chance in us getting all of them.
I know from being on the boards there are alot of women out there with 3 or 4 of these diseases. I have lived with the IBS for 20 years I am use to that now IC for 3 years..still adjusting to that
Just sooooo tired of it all... it never ends

Let's just hope the thyroid isn't cancerous. Even if it is, if it's caught early and removed, the results are very good. I've known several people who have had their entire thyroids removed and they do very well taking thyroid meds.
I've had IC for man years now without any of the "associated" problems so don't assume you will develop other problems.
