    Doctor in Chicago

    Hi all,

Thanks for all your responses when I initially wrote in. After doing a lot of research I am concerned that I might not be with the best doctor. Wondering if anyone knows of a good doc in chicago. The doctor did diagnose me without any tests, based on my symptoms. Which the other uriologist I saw would not do. He gave me Elmiron to try for 6 weeks and then I am going back. Also gave me Visteral at night. He said nothing about diet and didn't try the antihistamine that so many people seem to see results with. I have a history of allergies, migraines and asthma so you would think he would try this as well. Just kind of felt like a number and that he didn't direct the treatment to me specifically. He is with Northwestern Hospital and does specialize in female uriology and IC. Let me know if you know a doctor or your thoughts.

    Thanks,
    Sara

Sara ~ I saw Dr Moen with Lutheran General Hospital. He is a uro/gyn who is very sincere and knowledgeable about IC. He is the one who found my urethral polyps - but unfortunately he can not remove them and has referred me back to the urologist who still refuses to remove them.

What doctor did you see at Northwestern?

I clicked on the link regarding a research study and they contacted me today about participating. The doctor's office should be calling me within the next week to make the consultation appointment. Its for a new oral medication for IC.

    I highly recommend Dr. Moen.

    Good luck!

    Age almost 33! (4/27)
Single - no kids, but 1 cat, Bianca QT
Diagnosed mild IC in Oct 2004 - but on 11/7/05 told I DO NOT have IC (even though 2 other doctors agree that I DO have IC)
2nd cystoscopy 10/6/06 confirms I DO have IC! 3 out of 4 urologists agree ... It's not in my head!

9/11/06 Urodynamic results - bladder wont hold more than 200cc without causing retention due to lack of strength in bladder to start urine flow.
5/3/06 had IVP that revealed "mild swelling" of right kidney and ureter due to "recurrent infections or urine backup into kidney"
4/13/07 - started RMSO once a week for six weeks - ON HOLD DUE TO INFECTION!!! Scheduled to start again 5/4/07.

    Past meds:
    Elmiron - severe nausea
    Prosed - triggers migraines
Fentanyl - 3 day pain patch - lasted 36 hrs before I had to remove due to adverse reaction
    Vicodin - stopped working
    Tramadol - caused urine retention
    Fioricet - caused urine retention
    Nitrofurantoin (antibiotic for 3 months)
    Celebrex 200 mg
Pyridium 200mg (for 30 days supply)

    Sara,
Visteral is the antihistimine that you see referred to so much here. Visteral is one version of hydroxyzine (atarax is another). Just thought I would let you know - cause maybe your doctor was listening to you more than you thought (about your allergies and all).
    hugs,
    Janie

Thanks for the responses. I realized after I wrote that the medicine I see helping a lot of people is the antidepressant.

The doctor I saw at Northwestern is Dr. Clemens. I found him on-line, if you want to look him up. Feel he is knowledgable but felt almost rushed in and out. Not very good beside manor. Part of me thinks though that bedside manor doesn't matter if he knows what he is doing. I guess I will stick with him at this point and see how things progress. I wanted to go to a doctor at a teaching hospital that is why I chose him and also because of his specialty in female urology.

Dr. Andy Roth in Lombard is an obgyn who has been helpful. He has great bedside manor, and does not make you feel rushed. He takes you into his office before and after an exam to discuss your symptoms, concerns, and treatment. He is accessible, always returning calls the day you call. Also very nice partner, Dr. Zucker, and nice office staff/nurses.
