Have you had cultures done to be very certain the problem is yeast? If not, I think that should be your first step.

I have been having a lot of yeast problems lately also. I used some Terazol supposotories (prescription), but they irritated me so badly, that I was raw for days!! If I take Diflucan, the dr. gives me 2 or 3-- I take one every 3rd day for a week. That is the only wasy I can get rid of it. As a matter of fact, I have another gyno appt. this Tuesday to further discuss the frequency of these darned infections. Will print more if I find any new insight on this problem.. ( I also take lots of probiotics, cotton underwear only, low sugar.... I'm doing everything right but am still getting yeast!!) liz

Be sure that you're getting checked by a doctor for recurrent yeast infections. Itching & burning can be symptoms of vulvodynia & yeast inf. meds make that worse!

This has been a problem for me for years. Are you taking hormonal birth control? I found that when I quit my horomonal birth control - the yeast infections stopped, to.
I've also used terazol, and diflucan. Now its usually only when I take antibiotics. . which unfortunatly is often this year. I'm taking them now and took one diflucan (which is all they gave me) but I think I am going to have to call and ask for another. . because one doesnt seem to be doing it and I still have several days of antibiotics left to go (tonsilitis infection).
I've also heard eating lots of yogurt can help, though I'm not a huge yogurt fan so I've never tried that enough to know for sure.

Finished NIDDK Amitriptyline Study 11/05

I have struggled with yeast infections going on 17 years now. Diflucan doesn't seem to help me, either, even with multiple doses. Monistat either does nothing, or is extremely irritating. I know many of us can't tolerate any of the OTC yeast creams, but the one that I can tolerate and that actually works is gynelotrimin (clotrimazole). I can only find it at Walgreens.

Monistat and most creams are not well tollerated by many ICers. Can anyone else tollerate gynelotrimin? I don't recommend trying it to find out but if anyone knows I am interested in knowing. Thanks for sharing wcq.

This is my current list....normally creams are not tollerated by IC patients
YEAST LIST: Boric Acid, Aci-gel (insert it at night, it maintains the ph of the vagina & yeast can't live when there's an acidic environment - or can use apple cider vinegar in water TAKE CAUSION IF YOUR URETHRA IS SENSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!) and also washing externally with tea-tree oil diluted in water. \acidopholous tablets, a wet towel with s AZO yeast, http://www.ghtbiz.net/rescue/nocandida/lead.html, Any probotics, Flora-Q The Flora-Q is made by Kenwood Therapeutics. It contains Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus paracasel, and Streptococcus thermophilus -- these are all bacteria that normally live inside your digestive tract. What you do is take a capsule a day for a few days during antibiotic treatment and then a couple afterwards, and this replaces your normal flora, making it much less likely to to get yeast infections. http://www.ic-network.com/iclifestyles/july01.html list of ideas (Nystatin, Diflucan by prescription.) For oral thrush that keeps coming back: change your tooth brushFaith, Hope, and Love,

Yeasts and Yeasts
I had a yeast culture done and found out the type of yeast I had did not respond to Diflucan but I had to use Nystatin. There are a couple of different types and not all of them are Candida Albicans. Maybe you should insist on a culture.
Also I heard of a new product called THREELAC from Japan which is supposed to be highlly effective for yeast and contains probiotics that are delivered into the intestinal tract and dont get destroyed by the stomach which a lot of orals do. I have ordered some and will let you know as right now I have a low grade yeast infection-mild vulvar redness, urethral irritation but not discharge yet.

vaginal PH and yeast
Another thought regarding chronic yeast. If you have a culture and know which type of yeast is causing the problem, second step after medication for it is to try to keep the vagina PH high enough that yeast cant survive. If you are menopausal this means using a vaginal estrogen cream or Vagifem to keep the PH healthy. Replens keeps the PH in control but does nothing for restoring the vaginal cells, but may help those not menopausal.
High progestin BC pills also predispose to yeast.
I know when I start getting yeast infections, I usually need vaginal estrogen.
