My 3 year old have IC too ???

My three year old has complained that it hurts when she pees for almost 4 weeks now. She has had 3 UTI tests which have all been negative. She has had two sonograms, one ab & one by a urologist NP, which showed as normal. Unfortunately she was given some antibiotics a couple of weeks ago because she had a fever, which led to diarrhea and have led the doctors down the GI path. My gut feel is that it is not GI related. (She has never complained that it hurts to poop, only pee.)

My questions are:
* the pain associated with IC...is it all the time, or only when you pee? It seems to kick in with my daughter as her bladder empties. Of course, the anxiety associated with it starts when she gets the urge to go.
* she has had two blood tests which indicate high SED rate, high platelets, and low H&H (anemia). Are these results common with IC?
* the frequency factor...prior to her pain, she went often, but nothing I considered excessive. She almost stopped going for a week in response to the pain. Maybe 3 or 4 times a day. Is urine retention possible with IC?

There are some possibilities, other than IC, that could be the problem. Have you changed laundry soaps? What kind of soap are you using in her bath? (Bubble soaps can be irritating for some little girls) Also, when it hurts does she scratch herself.

It's possible for even small children to have IC. I hope she's better soon.

I send HUGE hugs and hope that it is not IC... I also have a 3 year old girl and I am petrified that she will have IC like me. A few weeks ago she had a suspect UTI, she was going to the toilet every 5 mins and crying and I nearly fell apart. The culture showed nothing and it went away.

I agree with Donna- check your laundry soap, bath soaps etc- are you using bubble bath? This is known to cause urinary tract problems with girls because of the harsh soap content. Does she swim? This is another culprit. Make sure she pees post swimming and after baths. My little girl also hangs on when she needs to go to the loo- she will go all day without going unless I make her.

Fabric softener can also cause problems too. Also it may be a good idea to double rinse her clothes. Because detergent isn't always rinsed away in just one rinse.

Bleach too.... alot of house hold cleaners contain it and if you use one to clean your tub that might be it too.. I hear that Mr Bubbles is a bad thing to use.

Hey, there. I hope that you are able to figure out what's going on and that your daughter is feeling better soon. My bladder symptoms started when I was three. They didn't really interfere with my good childhood, though. But, here are some things I know my mom did that you might want to keep in mind.

She found that bleach really irritated me. She would wash my socks in bleach, but nothing else. Bubble baths were a problem. So was chlorine. So was non-cotton underwear. And drinks like orange juice and punch were out.

I don't remember the early days, but I do remember when I was older and I would cry when I had to go to the restroom during an infection or something because I knew it would hurt. In order to help me go, my mom or dad would make a sssshhhhing sound like water to help me ease into it a bit. Or even run the faucet. That might help a bit. Also, maybe even pouring could water in the area right after going may bring her some relief.

Also, when she is being tested for a UTI, are they sending it out for a culture? For most of my life, my UTIs only show up when they are cultured and not in the office. This is still true. It may just be an infection that is pestering her and not IC. Or she may just be having some sort of allergic reaction.

No matter what, I hope your daughter feels better soon. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
