No, I have no idea why your Doc would say that. I have never heard of that before. It is perfectly natural, and would have less side effects than a birth control pill. That is why I would recommend it. You'll have to ask your Doctor exactly what she means, and if she is even familiar with it. Good Luck!

Hi asmashly. I have explaines more thoroughly in the other birth control threads in this forum, but here is the gist of it. Wild yam cream is a natural progesterone topical cream. Because it is topical, it doesn't cause the same side effects as birth control pills. It also is only progesterone. Most BC pills are estrogen AND progesterone. Wild yam cream is better for people who have a hard time tolerating estrogen. Does that make sense?
A little extra progesterone in a mild form like wild yam cream can help some of us bablance out our hormones. It is the same type of theory as using BC pills to balance out your hormones, it is just a milder form without the same side effects. It CAN be used as birth control, and I do know some people who use it for that purpose, but I don't have enough information to recommend it as a birth control. I do feel like I have enough information to recommend it to help balance out your hormones. Of course, everyone's body is different, and produces different hormones at different levels. I hope I haven't confused you
Good Luck!

That is helpful. Thank you. One more thing, and I might stupid for asking, I am new to this, but is IC influenced by hormones?

Ask any question you want, I promise none of us will think it is stupid.
Especially that one. A lot of us think that hormones exaccerbate our problem because we tend to flare when we are ovulating, the week before our period, and sometimes during our period. Because of this, we feel like hormones definately play apart. If you don't happen to flare during these times of the month, hormones may not be a trigger for you and you don't need to worry about it. If that is the case, many of us are jealous

Oh believe me, it acts up more. I guess I have never put two and two together. Or never wanted too. It means more Dr visits, more poking, it can all be so tiresome. But one flare and I am in tears.

That makes me so sad! It paints quite a picture. I picture a young girl ( I picture you young for some reason, late teens, early twenties) Crying because of the pain and frustration I know so well. I sincerely hope you are able to get some sort of handle on this soon. Maybe you will find that one thing in your diet that has been bothering you and you didn't know it. Good luck!
(don't mind me. I'm 17 weeks pregnant and a little emotional
)
