    Hi Lori hi

Sorry you have IC. I am also newly married
and was diagnosed w/ic three months later. I have been on Elmiron now about 3 months. Sex is painful to me too and I'm hoping that it does get better with more time on Elmiron. Hope someone here can answer your question...I'm still new and learning. Tilly

It is possible to have a satisfying sexual relationship with IC. It can take a lot of experimenting and open communication, but it's well worth the effort.

One of the things that helps most is using a lubricant --- the extra lubrication can really make a difference.

Elmiron can take up to six months or more to be effective, but if it works for you it's well worth the effort.

    Sending an encouraging hug,
    Donna

hi hello Lori and tilly welcome although I'm sorry you have to go through this remember you are not alone,
I have also been on elmiron for about three months now, started when I got diagnosed

to my understanding it is common to have pain with intercourse, I'm sorry I can't help you more
I don't really have a problem with pain during intercourse it dose happen every once in awhile though. you can try looking on this website to see if you can find anything about it i believe it's called dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
also medication can interfere with pain and libido, you can also check if you have any overlapping conditions such as vaginismus and pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD)
GOD, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Hi, having sex has become a painful experience for myself as well. I have had IC for about 12 years now, but its just been in the past year that sex has become a problem. However mine comes and goes. IT doesnt always hurt. yet another thing about IC i don't understand. This past year my IC has gotten way out of control....i feel like i am losing my mind. I hope that your husbands are somewhat understanding. MY previous husband and boyfriend were not and it makes a big difference if they are. MY fiance is SO very understanding and loving .....i am blessed now to have someone in my life that works with me with all my IC problems. Lubricants are a must.....and take it slow......and try different positions...sometimes it hurts less if you are the one on top or from behind.......just keep trying until you find things that work.....and i wish you the very very best.......Dont give up.

I'm sorry to say that I have the same exact problem with sex. It can be one of the most painful things in the entire world. Not to be really graphic about this but try some of these things.... Definetly use KY Silke (not jelly) on him and you. Also, condoms help because sometimes the sperm can make it burn. Also try to down a bottle of water afterwards. And finally get a squeeze bottle and completely wash yourself off afterwards with warm water. Sorry to be graphic but these are some of the things that work for me. Of course you will still have your good and bad days but these things definetly work. If you start to have a major flare afterwards, try to take half a pain pill. It is the only thing that helps for me.

Good luck, I hope it helps.
