were about to try to get pregnant-then IC
My husband and I have been planning for the last year to try and get pregnant this month. We have three children, and our youngest is four. We felt like it was time for another one. I am only 28 years old, and I wanted to have all my children by 30. We wanted 4 or 5. Then I found out about IC.
I was on bedrest with my last child for 5 months. It was horrible. I am (was) a much healthier person now, I thought, and expected to have an easier pregnancy. Now it seems I can expect a worse one.
I have three children already, yet I don't feel like I am done. Is it worth it to risk another pregnancy? Is it worth putting my children and husband through 9 months of a crazy, sick mother? Is it selfish of me to do to them? How bad will it get?

Sherry I don't think its shelfish if this is something that you and your hubby wants. You are still young and if you feel you can do this I say go for it.
We all experience different syptoms with IC and who knows maybe you will go into remission durning your pregnancy! Good luck

Thank you work it! Have you gone through a pregnancy with IC? Even without IC I was on bedrest for 5 months with my last kid. That was 5 years ago, so I was hoping it would be better this time. Not with IC though.

Hi Sherry,
Luckily most women go into remission when pregnant. I am 4 1/2 months pregnant and still having symptoms. Although they are quite mild and Tylenol usually takes care of most of my bad days. My OB/GYN is familiar with IC and she is able to suggest methods of tolerance during pregnancy and can effectively prepare me for my delivery. I am having a cesearan to reduce the risk of bladder damage & am preparing to be in the hospital for about two weeks since IC tends to make my healing significantly slower.
I would suggest researching your OB/GYN and make sure he or she is knowledgable of IC. If your doctor is knowledgable they can discuss the risks involved and be able to take certain percautions. And hey if you do get pregnant you may end up being healthier than you are now!
Good Luck!

Teisha,
I was officially diagnosed just a few days ago, and I think that IC complicated my last two pregnancies also. I just didn't know about it. I was on bedrest for 5 months with my last one, and I think IC could have caused some of my premature contractions. That is part of the reason I am thinking twice about getting pregnant again. What makes you think you had it when you were preg with your twins, and how is this pregnancy going?
Thanks!
Sherry

Sherry thanks for asking. I felt discomort with the twins early on and knew something was not normal since we already had a daughter. And when I thought I had a UTI i didn't. My hubby was in the military back then and the medical service was not all that great. So I went undiagnosed for many years until I fianally (sp) found a dr that sent me to a uroligist.
I am feeling good so far with this one. I feel really bloated all the time so I am assuming that it is the IC since I am only about 6 weeks now. My pants are so tight and very uncomfortable to wear.

When I was pregnant with my last one, I was on paxil. My daughter is perfectly normal even so.... But now, considering another pregnancy and not on paxil anymore. I am afraid too. The paxil dulled my pain quite abit but the side effects finally got too bad. So now it would be cold turkey.

Janelle, Teisha, and Tracey, Thanks for your support! It is good to know others are actually doing it. Keep me updated on your pregnancies, if you could, and let me know how you are feeling. It will help me make a decision, I think. Thank you!

Sherry-
your story sounds something like mine. I am in my late 20's and wanting another child before I turn thirty. I was on bedreast for 7 months with my son(my only child for now) and was always going into labor earily.
My husband and I want to try for another child soon but this IC got in the way. It hurts too much to have sex and my health is bad but I haven't given up hope. I think as long as you get the ok from your doctor, one you are comfortable with, it is not selfish to have another child. Think about the end results-someone else to love so much. I say listen to your heart and you won't regret it! Just talk to your family first-let them know it may not be easy!
I wish you lots of luck!

Thank you Sweet pea! I had to use lidocaine to get pregnant with my last child. It worked nicely, but hurt after. Luckily it doesn't take long for me to get pregnant. Let me know if you decide to try!

I am getting kind of discouraged here......
We have not used any birth control for about 5 or 6 months now, and nothing yet. Before that, I was not on birth control. We used to joke that IC was the best birth control. I am 35, going on 36 in 3 months and surprised it is taking me so long to concieve. With my first two it happenend the very first month of trying. I had my first at age 24 (no IC then) and then my daughter 3 years ago at age 33. (with IC, but on paxil). Now trying again. And not on Paxil anymore. Just Elmiron and Visteral. Til I am pregnant.
Am I crazy? I often wonder this. My mom and sisters think I am. With my health problems, bladder and fibro. they wonder why I would ever put myself thru it again. I wonder myself, we just wanted one more.....I am terrified of being off of the meds but time is not on our side. I don't want to be pregnant and a new mom at 40. I already feel old. So this is why the rush. Good luck to all of you.~TRACEY~ Wife and Mother of three beautiful
children.

Good luck Tracey! If you feel right about it that is all that matters. I hope you get pregnant soon!
It took a little lidocaine for me to get pregnant with my last one.
We are praying for you!

Tracey, it will happen when the time is right. I totally undersatnd when you ask if you are crazy to be doing this again. I feel that in the end it will all be worth it. Heck it's only nine months lol and before I knew I had IC I was on nothing so I can handle the nine months (I hope)
On a side note have you tried the basel tempature thing? Each time we have tried to get pregnant I have used that method and the 1st time it took 2 months and this time only a month. Good luck and have fun sometimes the stress of "getting pregnant" goes againt our body.
