    Totally Depressed

Well, after two years of CONSTANT antibiotics, urine samples are coming back negative, negative, negative. Five negative ones in a row but still as much pain as ever. Antibiotics didn't help me at all. Still have IC. Maybe amoxicillan (sp?) would have worked, I had every a/b but that one. Started Elavil--10mg/morning and night. It isn't helping that much either. Uro doesn't want me on Elmiron because it upsets my stomach too much. SO, now what ... uro only schedules visits one every two months. Hence, unless I call my uro and speak to his receptionist, it will be another two months of pain. Believe it or not, you can be dying and you will not get to see my uro until the next "scheduled" appointment. I am sooo sad that this disease cannot cured with antibiotics and fed up with pain and peeing all the time. I want my life back. It has been two years of straight hell.

I feel like amoxicillan is the best for IC. Right after I started suffering with IC pain, I took a prescription of amox. for another reason. I had no IC pain during that time. It was only a good while later that I realized that was probably what it was. I haven't taken amoxicillan since but if I ever start to have pain like I did at first, I will request it from my doctor.

If you call your urologist will he work you in sooner than two months from now? If you are miserable, please call so you can be working towards getting some relief.

Has your uro discussed what treatments you might try in the future?

I hope you can get in to see him soon and get working towards feeling better.

    Diagnosed August 2001

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

My IC story: http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/kim.html It's very outdated now. I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

You were given some good advise...not to impressed with your uro.
http://www.remedyfind.com/hc-Interstitial-Cystitis.asp Here is a list of treatments and self helps maybe it can help you know what treatments you would like to try. I do think you should ask your uro his plan....plan a, b, c, d, e, and what things are good to combine. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon. I wish this would cure too!

I can't take elimron either but can use the heparin which is a stronger form of elimron but since it doesnt touch my stomach it dont upset it.
Heparin has been a blessing for me.
You may be able to use the heparin since elimron don't work.
You may want to talk to your doctor about it.
    sending you hugs and prayers

Thanks for the site, Katrina. I checked it out. Thank you to everyone for their replies. I am on uro #2 and treatment options have been slllllllooooowwwww. The elavil seems to be kicking in more although the dose my need to be increased. I just hope I don't become too zombie-like. I would love to try Elmiron directly instilled, but I guess it is not used everywhere. Thanks again ladies for your encouraging words. Rhonda, I am so very glad you are feeling better!
