Pain After Hydrodistention
Hello to all.
My hydrodistention and DMSO cocktail was on Nov 10th....just a little over a week ago and my pain and symptoms seem to be getting more intense. The urethral burning and pelvic pain is much worse than before....I knew that the S&S would increase but instead of subsiding with time things are worse. I am unable to sleep even with pain meds on board. If I do knot off for a bit and awake with the urge to urinate I go into awful bladder spasm that is relentless.
I saw my Urologist yesterday and he did write a PX for Ultram and is checking to see if I have a bladder infection....since just touching my stomach is painful and very tender.
I want to return to work and have been off for 3 months already, the majority of the time off has been running from Dr to Dr until finally getting a DX in late Oct, he does want to follow-up with the in office DMSO treatments as soon as the bladder has a chance to settle down.
I just wondered if all of the treatments and medication cocktails ever bring relief. I know we are all different and respond differently to treatments and medications. I just want to have hope that all of this is not in vain and that I will be able to return to work and get some quality of my life back.
It is so frustrating because the S&S do wax and wain somewhat. I did have a few hours Monday evening that I felt great and felt, finally there is a sense of relief that all is working and bringing some victory for me and my family.
However, my excitment was short lived.
I recently found out that I have a couple of family members that live out of state, and I never see, have IC as well. Both are females and waited years to be DX. Thankfully they are both being treated presently, however because of the delay in DX...one has terrible bladder ulcers and has constant pain with very little relief even with her instillations and medication.
I am not going to give up. I pray daily for the correct combination of treatments and pray that the Drs treating me are compassinate and caring with there guidance.
Thanks to any that read my thread. I just needed to vent and write down my thoughts.

Hi Diana,
Sometimes it takes a little while to recoop from your hydro. As for the DMSO, I had a bad experience from that.
I wish I had more advice to give, other than to wait and see what the urine test says. But it is not uncommon for ICers to have pain after a hydro. I had 2 hydros, and after both, I wasn't right for a few weeks to a month.
Hugs,

It does sound like you might have an infection working. Hopefully your doctor will get back to you soon with an answer to that.
There are many treatment options for IC and yes, most of us do get better --- it may take time to find exactly what works best for you so don't give up hope yet. Are you following an IC diet? That can be very important.

Yes, I am following the diet and until the hydro/DMSO, I really had very little reaction from foods or drinks. However, since the treatmeant it seems everything gives me pain.
Thanks for listening I appreciate your words.Diana
