Just was disgnosed....
I thought I would update in this thread since I went to the doctor and he did the TEST and told me that I do have IC. To make a long doctors apt. short I am now taking the following meds..... Elmiron, Elavil, and Atarax all for IC. He said they all may help w/ the pain and w/ the spasms. I am also going for the next 9 weeks for treatments. These treatments are "heprin" (sp?) treatments to help out as well.
An suggestions would be great on pain management, husband management, and life stlye changes.

Now you know. I think my most difficult time with IC was that time before I was diagnosed.
Your job now is to learn as much as you can about IC and its treatment options. It does sound like your doctor is on the right track there. Are you following an IC diet? If not, I suggest you begin now. You'll find the diet in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/
I'm sure what you mean is heparin, which can be instilled into the bladder and helps many IC patients.
Sending warm encouraging hugs,

Sounds like you have a wonderful start on treatments! You must have a uro who knows what he is doing - that's awesome.
It helps so much to feel like we are working with someone competent and who knows his or her "stuff".
Kim
Diagnosed August 2001
Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)
My IC story: http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/kim.html It's very outdated now. I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

Thanks!
Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts. I am starting to follow the IC diet and luckily there is no chocolate allowed in my house b/c I daughter is allergic to it. I plan to sit down w/ my husband and talk w/ him regarding everything tonight.
As for my doctor, my OB is the one taking care of me. My URO does not even know that I have IC. I have been seeing my URO for over a year and he never tested me for this. So my plan is to stick w/ my OB and see how it goes. He seem to be into this subject and is looking into other treatments for me just incase!
I will keep you up to date!
Thanks!
