Spirulina???
Hi everyone, just wondering if any of you have tried Spirulina??? I actually read an Australian IC article that said Spirulina was good for the bladder as well as being a source of nutrients, but more research had to be put into it before it was reccommended.
I went and bought it anyway and it was EXSPENSIVE and now 2 hours after taking it I am flaring like hell, I just went to the loo and AGONY. I can't think what else it could be, I was ok after breakfast...
Any feedback???

i'm not sure if it helps your bladder but it's really incredibly good for you, so if you can tolerate it, it shouldn't hurt. spirulina is a living green food chock full of tons of essential nutrients and vitamins, etc. it's been shown to ward off cancer, also.

although, just to add, it's very possible that you flared from the spirulina. we're all different. maybe try it one more time and if you have the same reaction, you know to stay away from it.
also, quackwatch doesn't like anything that's not western medicine approved.
anyway, my main point is: trust yourself, trust your body.

Actually, it's algae similar to what you can see in murky pond water or the stuff that washes ashore from the ocean.

LOL! I tried it for a few weeks, I had seen the same recommendation for it, but it didn't help me. Although - even Elmiron isn't helping me at the present time so I'm not a good one to listen to. It seems nothing much works for me. Doesn't mean this or that won't work for another person - I just seem to have exceptionally bad luck.
It's probably not harmful, unless it makes you flare.

How do you get your adequate vitamin intake??
:yikes: I looked at that web site, thanks Donna... althought my mummy always says don't believe everything you read on the internet
You have to laugh how us IC-ers will jump at anything that is supposed to make us better, (well, ME anyway!!)
Don't know about the Spirulina, maybe will try it one more time.... how do the rest of you get your adequate vitamin and nutrient intake???

Something to consider...
Spirulina is supposed to rev up the immune system. I read somewhere that it is not a good idea to take if you have an autoimmune disease (which IC may be???). I was taking it before, and had no bladder effects, but stopped since I read that. I would like to take it again, but am afraid it may be harmful for us ICers.
