Whatever it is, do it with costumes --- young children love costumes. Since you seem to have more little ones, maybe the older ones could be narrators and the wee ones could be angels, shepherds, etc., and move around while the Christmas story is read.
Little girls just love to be angels, so you may have to alter the story a bit to make room for more angels.

Sharon can you pass the Valuim.... PLEASE.
I surley don't have a clue for a christmas paly..
My daughter suggested a play they always do at church... about Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus... all the little children derssed up as the animals, and Ashley played Mary, and her friend Joseph.. it was very simple as there were not many lines.. they had some one there to help the little ones say there lines..... and they sung songs...
Good luck...
Brat
PS... Ashley said, have the one high school girl be mary, one boy be Joseph, and the other 3 be the wiseman, They used a baby doll as Jesus, and the toddlers be angels and animals... That is what they do at church...'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.'

Ok you guys thank you!! And Cindy, tell your daughter thanks too!
I had been googling myself silly on the web earlier....tell me what you think.
It's a simple Christmas play for young children...it's mostly singing songs and following a "star" around (children will dress as angels and shepherds and wisemen as you guys already suggested) til the star finally reaches bethlehem and the baby jesus. All the while there will be an adult narrator telling the congregation what is going on and letting the crowd join in on the songs. Sounds cute.........I just have to pay 30.00 to get the cd of songs.
I also came up with some Christmas jokes which I'll have to post in humor come time for the holidays.
And a revised version of 'Twas the night before Christmas for an adult to read.....all in all I think I can get at least 45 minutes out of everything before I anounce the arrival of "the big guy".
So, tell me what ya think!!Tons of support,
Jaime
