I had a disastrous new patient visit to a gynecologist today. He suggested a complete hysterectomy to "cure" my IC. (He couldn't explain to me why removing my uterus & ovaries would heal my bladder. Didn't think he could explain that one, but I wondered what he'd come up with -- which was "Why for you want useless organs if you are not going to bear children?")
I cut the office visit quite short at that point, said "Thank you. This is not a good match. I won't be taking any more of your time" & walked out.

Unfortunately, one of the reasons I was there is because I thought I might have a yeast infection. So, stopped by the pharmacy & bought an overthecounter Monistat One Day treatment.

Is this okay to use with IC? I called my urologist's office to see & they said none of their patients had mentioned problems with it...

I'm going to hold off for tonight, see if it goes away by itself. In the meantime, if anybody's used this, if you could let me know how it was for you, that would be helpful.

Thanks,

Katrina

I think I have heard of someone say their bladder doesn't like it.

Boy that gyno sounds like he was out to do a surgery you don't need for his benefit. One theory on why a hysterectomy may help IC is that hormones do effect IC...and many are worse while having periods. A hysterectomy though can also be hard on the bladder. There are meds that can keep a women from having a period that aren't quite as hard on the body.

Anyway, Congrats on walking out on the doc and I hope you can find a better one!

I hope your yeast infection gets better soon. I would aim for the oral med...most of us have better luck with it!

Hi Katrina,
Thanks for the input. I wound up trying the Monistat last night, since I can't afford the time off from work to make the long drive out to my regular gynecologist to get the oral pill & they won't prescribe it by phone since I haven't had a yeast infection in 3 or 4 years. (I figure the recent change in birth control plls made me especially vulnerable right now).

I've got a little burning today, but not bad. Hopefully this will take care of it & I won't have another for 3 or 4 more years.

Yeah, I'd really have preferred the pill, but oh well. I'm so hoping not to miss time from work this year. (I lost $300-$500 a paycheck every month last Spring because i ran out of sickleave).

Thanks for answering!

Hi Kadi! I get yeast inf. often, and using the over the counter products usually help-- I just get that one day "burn" and then it's over. hopefully it worked that way for you too. liz
