I asked this question already, but didn't get much response. I have not been in flare--for a change--however, I am having a hydro-distention later this week. Will IC show up even if I am not having a flare. Would it show up more if I was having a flare? Would the bladder look significantly worse if I was in a flare? Hmmmmmmmmm Thanking you in advance for any info you might provide! (This is my second uro and we are seeking a second opinion. My first uro told me very little and you had to pry info out of him!)

Yes, even if you are not having any symptoms whatsoever, your urologist should still be able to see the characteristic pinpoint bleeding and/or Hunner's ulcers of IC. Because the disease is chronic, the pathology will be there even if you are feeling better at the time.

Jen is correct. Even if you're not currently in pain, the IC is still there and will usually show during a hydrodistention.

Flare or no Flare IC should show up ....will it be worse when flaring....I doubt it...if so not much.

I had one hydro done during the worst flare I have had since diagnosed and another with no flare. Both showed the same results. Good luck

Thanks everyone! This makes me feel better. I will let you know if the second uro confirms the IC dx.

Hi. As far as I know you might still have IC even if the hydro and bladder photos do not show ulcers or pinpoint bleeding. Confusing, isn't it? It will determine, however, your bladder capacity under anesthesia and that is also helpful in diagnosing IC. Hope you get some answers soon, Meg.
