I just had my first DMSO. That stuff smells terrible, I almost puked. My question is ...when I stood up to get dressed, I think most of it dribbled out onto the floor. I was holding my bladder. Has this happened before to any of you?

Yes I had the same thing happen. Only I was on my way home.
Good luck and hope it helps you,

I never leaked more than a drop or two of DMSO, but I can tell you that holding it in my bladder was one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life.... it made me have to urinate so urgently and made me have so much pain that I would scream all the way home. all that, and they didn't end up working well for me. I'm glad I don't do them anymore. :)

Some people say that it improves with each treatment though, so give it a few more tries before you give up, ok? Many, many ICers say it works WONDERFULLY for them :)

I lie down for the treatment, which helps. I wait at the doctor's office til the 20 min are up, void, then still wear a nighttime Kotex for any leakage afterwards on the trip home. You're right, it does reek! And my bladder spasms like crazy to get rid of it.

But, it's one of the things that's helped me, so oh well...

I think I will stay put for the 20 minutes. I did not have any spasms, probanly becasue it all leaked out. But I did have a towel on the seat in the car, just in case. I was also considering taking a kotex next time to help absorb some of the leftover. They did not tell I had to lay there. The nurse said it was ok to get up. BIG MISTAKE. It felt like my water had broke when I was preggers. Only this was way more icky.

It was barely in. I do not think it was in for more then 3 minutes. I do not smell, so I think it was a botched attempt.

They didn't tell me to lay there either. I did wear a pad thankfully someone had suggested it. Glad I did cause what a mess. Your right the smell was horrible for me too almost instantly. Good Luck and hope your treatments help.

never had a problem with it leaking out. i usually stay put for about 20 minutes. the nurses have been dealing with me for so long and they know how precious this medicine is to me that they never let any of it leak. we have come up with very creative ways to get it in and help it stay in. i feel 100% most of the time. however it does stink like heck and i can taste it as soon as it goes in. thats how i know it is in and staying because i can taste it.

Are they putting lidocaine in first? That's the one thing that helps me. When I have a DMSO treatment I leave the office immediately after the treatment and hold it about 45 minutes --- the time it takes me to get back home. For me it doesn't hurt until I empty it, then it's uncomfortable for several hours. The rest of the time it keeps me feeling good.

I asked about that and they said no, it was not needed.

Ugh, poor you... I had all my DMSOs without lidocaine too and it made them much more miserable than they had to be. I'm so sorry :( I know what it's like :( I was especially mad since I went through all of that and the treatments didn't work in the end *SIGH*

BUT, maybe they will work for you in the end and you'll feel great!!!!!

Try taking a Pyridium and/or a pain pill before the treatment to densensitize things. Also, if you remain lying there at the doc's office, it may help to use a ThermaCare heating patch over your bladder area to reduce spasms and tension while you're holding.

My doctor said the Marcaine in the cocktail is enough & longer lasting than Lidocaine. Since this is the only way I've ever had it done, I can't compare it myself.
