I just found out about a month ago that I am alergic to latex. It makes me burn all around my vagina. Oh man its painfull!! Lately my bf and I have been doing it without condoms....ahhh, relief!! Last week however, I got an infection the day after we had sex. I though we were being carefull to avoid infection, but I guess nothing is 100%, right? So, I go to the drug store to pick up some lambskin condoms- they are $50!!!!!!!! :yikes: for 12!!!!!!! I about fainted. I just couldnt bring myself to pay that much....so....not sex for us lately, lol.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone know where to get affordable lambskin condoms?? Thanks so much!

Do you know for certain it's a latex allergy? I was just wondering if maybe it could be an allergy to the spermicide they use on condoms. If it's possible it could be that instead perhaps some designed for sensitive skin etc might be an idea.
A possible suggestion for checking if your allergic to them prior to using them for what there made for would be to test them on the inside of your wrist, or another sensitive area of skin. When I was training for beauty therapy we checked products on the palm side of the wrist, leaving 24 hours or so after to see if any reaction occured. Since the down below bits are so ultra sensitive, it might safe some major pain to check for any signs of any allergy first.

As for getting an infection after not using a condom, I'd sugest you were either likely just very unlucky and it was a coinsidence. Unless there's any chance that an infection is being past between you. But if you've already ruled that out, I'd think it was more likely just coinsidence.

Hope this helps, best of lucky in finding a solution.

Hi there,

Back in my heterosexual life I developed an allergy to latex condoms - after using them would have burning and itching like nothing else. I spoke to a man who owned a condom shop here in Australia and he suggested silicone based condoms, which are usually marketed as "latex free". I tried them, and voila! no itching, no burning ever again. They were a little bit more expensive than latex condoms (about $3-4 more for a pack of 12) but worked for me. I wonder if they are available where you live? It may be a more affordable option than a $50 pack of condoms!

Hope this info is useful - good luck. But you are not alone - apparently latex allergies are not that uncommon!

I'm also allergic to the Nonoxodyl-9 spermicide with the same burning. Try some plain ones. Otherwise, try the non-latex ones.

The internet is actually a good place for specialty condoms. Like you, I cannot handle condoms and have found some Japanese brands could be less of a problem. I can't remember of any sites off the top of my head, but I will find them again if you're interested.

A website called Good Vibrations (http://www.goodvibes.com) sells some specialty condoms, I know... back in my single life I ordered special condoms from there before. Now that I'm married, we no longer use condoms, but we DO order special lubricants like Liquid Silk from this site. It's pretty good... I know there are other sites out there as well, but can't remember off the top of my head. :)
