I have been reading Catherines books and the IC puzzel book. Both mention use of mashmallow tea. I found some today at a health food store in its natural form and I am making a tea of it that I found in the IC puzzel book.
Have you used it?
Next week I plan to add echeanacia to my diet and remove hopefully my anti spas meds (pryridium, urised and urimax)
I have been working on de toxifing my body and reducing the acidity. I started out with a PH of 4.6 of urin and now I am up to 6.4!!!!
I would love anyones input or reccomendations!

I have to admit I tried marshmallow tea last year and couldn't tolerate it. But then again, everyone is different with IC. What works for one may not work for another. It's worth a try.

Congrats on you ph results! I haven't used Marshmallow root myself yet....but it is on my list of possibly in the future..lol!
My concern about it is that it can be used to ease constipation and I get diarehia as often as I am constipated ....so that could turn out to be a problem for me. I hope it turs out to work for you. I would be curious to know!

I thought about trying it, but it's a diuretic and I am already taking a physician-ordered diuretic --- my doctor said I am better off taking my prescription since it's a more precise dosage.

As for your question, I used the all natural dried herbs (sans teabag) from the co-op. I put them in a tea strainer. Good luck, hope it helps!

I tried the stuff in a glass bottle with a dropper, too. Didn't notice it helping any - didn't hurt, though, either. But since it didn't help me as far as I could tell, I didn't continue using it. I might be a very tough case, though. My IC is almost end-stage, which is pretty rare in itself, most IC'ers have more mild cases. So I wouldn't let my experience make anyone feel pessimistic about any remedy.

I take the marshmallow root in capsule form plus the cornsilk (also capsules). It does say diuretic properties on the label, but I haven't noticed a difference in frequency at all. I can't tell whether it;s helping or not--but it's not hurting either!! My uro said I could use this on top of the elmiron and atarax. So far I haven't had any problems with it. liz

I started w/the stuff in the bottle w/the dropper, made sure I got the one w/o alcohol. I used it before I was put on my meds, it made a considerable difference, now I have the caps that I open, pour in water n let sit a bit, then strain it, the dropper stuff helped more than this, but I just found out where to get the loose herb and need to go get some to try. The caps stuff just doesnt seem to do as much for me. I also don't take it around the time I take the Elmiron, read somewhere that it should be taken apart from Elmiron. I can't remember where I read it, but then, I cant remember much of anything lately LOL!!!

I just got some dried marshmallow root from Whole Foods last week and gave it a try as a tea. I made a really mild brew the first time and did not react. I have had it every other day now for a week and I seem to feel (maybe it's all in my head) better! I do think, however, that it increases my frequency for an hour or so but I feel it is worth the ph and other benefits. I just read the 'puzzle' book and have learned so much! Almost ran out of yellow highlighter! I'm very excited to try other herbs as well. I did try licorice root, and certainly 'a little bit goes a along way', but if I make it too strong I do feel urethra pinches. I'll back off for awhile and then try it weak again in a day or two.
I have an old herb book (Naturaopathic Handbook of Herbal Formulas, by Herbal Research Publications, Inc.) from years ago when I was diagnosed that I thought I'd share a bit of:
"...a general recommendation would be to use herbs six days on and one day off, six weeks on and one week off, six months on and one month off. Each period of rest from herbal useage allows the ffects of the herbs to become integrated into the physiology. A very simple analogy will illustrate this. When one wants to dye a white cloth blue, one dips the cloth in dye and then sets it in the sun to dry. When dry, it is noticeable that some of the color has been lost, yet some remains. Again the cloth is dipped in the dye and set back in the sun to dry. Some color again is lost, but more remains. The alternation of this process of "rest and activity" enables the color to become steadfast. Likewise periodic days of "rest" from herbal remedies enable the physiology to integrate the effects of the herbal compounds and make those effects permanent."
I thought that was worth sharing...

Linda, I sort of do the same thing when it comes to herbs, a good friend of mine went to a class dealing w/herbs and her teacher said to take them three wks. on one week off so you dont get "immune" to the herb. :)
