Describe burning

I have seen many of you post burning as a major symptom of your IC. Would you please describe what you mean by that? I have burning in the vulva area which I believe may be a form of vulvodynia. Is this what you all mean by burning, or something else?

When I get burning, it is INSIDE the urethra and bladder... it usually happens as I urinate, and can last for a while after I've finished urinating. I usually only get this symptom after sexual intercourse, or if I've eaten something REALLY acidic and spicy.

Generally, if I have burning on the outside, on the vulva, I find that a soap or laundry detergent or something is to blame. Either that or I have yet another yeast infection :( I've not been diagnosed with vulvodynia, but I do know I'm pretty sensitive to chemicals down there....

The way I would describe my own burning is that the sensation feels like it begins in the bladder, continues through to the urethra, and seems to affect the vulva area as well. It feels like when you have a really, really bad sunburn, step into the shower and the water hits it. For a couple of seconds it stings like all get-out? That's what it feels like to me. Except unlike the sunburn + water, the stinging doesn't stop. It's also intensified while urinating.

I have burning in the uretha almost always. Just sometimes it intensifies before or after urinating I call it a burning match or wildfire. I also have vulva burning which comes and goes.

I would descibe it as an open cut in me when something like bleech touch it ......for me if it happens before I even urinate it is usually mild....but makes going no fun. Todays Heparin treatment is causing it, as does sex or a big cheat in the diet. Hope that answers your question.

I only feel burning in my bladder and/or urethra. It starts to intensify with the urge to urinate. It worsens during urination, and is unbearable after urination. It slowly subsides to an annoyance. When it is really bad, I find myself curled up on the couch unable to even think. It is a burning, searing, hot pain. Feels like a burn that needs ice to keep it under control and cool it down. This is the time I really need my pain meds as nothing else will even take the edge off. It is my poison, the worst symptom to deal with.

I have burning before i pee, after i pee, and when i pee ....... the only way i know how to discribe it is like someone is pooring acid over my privite parts. I only get this feeling when i am in a flair.

My burning feels like a hot pepper were implanted about an inch deep into the glands just below my urethra. I've looked with a mirror and the burning seems just below the "hole" of the urethra, but not near the vagina.

When I use an ice cube it give me a similar feelling you get when you eat a strong peppermint. It's cooling, but still burning.

I burn all the time, but it's worse just after going pee. I don't notice any burning when I'm sleeping. I have no frequency (go about once an hour if I'm drinking fluids).

I'm not sure if what I get is considered the burning pain or just bladder pain.
But it is the pain I would describe and all the doctors would say it was a UTI till my urine test came back negative.

anyway this is how I describe it, I feel the pain from my belly button to me pee hole. it feels like some one reached there hand up my pee hole and started to grab my bladder and mix it around then try to pull it out. plus the whole time it feels like there is a cut from belly button to pee hole (going down the inside of me not the out side) that someone poured lemon juice and salt on. This pain will get so bad I cannot pee. or stand strait. Or barely walk at all. I hardly ever got this pain at first but know get it at least once a week sometimes it is worse then other times.

When I am flaring I burn all the time. It intensifies when when I pee. The burning often feels like hot acid before urination but somtimes it feels like I am being stung by fire ants. Somtimes it feels like I am peeing razor blades. The burning is inside bladder and when I pee it extends to my ureathra and sometimes outside to my vulva.

I really have to agree with VickieB's post... that is exactly how I feel.... my bladder starts to feel all hot then the rest starts..

Only get burning after I pee and it usually subsides after a few minutes.

I agree that it feels like it is on fire. It also feels like someone is jumping up and down on your bladder like a trampoline :bouncy:

my burning is in my bladder, but when I had a supposed "bacterial infection" it was in the vagina and pee outlet, too. can you believe a specialist told me burning is not usually associated with ic. i wanted to cry. this is the second uro i am seeing. gol' darn it, doctors, get your facts straight and learn about this disease! what am i supposed to do? show how all the posts from women with ic!

One ER doctor told me, "Well, you don't have blood in your urine, usually people that have IC have blood in their urine."
