Hi, Ever since my doc added Calcium to my diet 3 times a day for osteo that i tested postive for, passing stool has been like giving birth and I have had chronic fissures for a year, burning upon passing stool. Have tried metamucil ( makes the stool too dense), and softeners, and Senocot. Still there is no dealing with the calcium which I take in combo with Pamelor, Elmiron, neurontin. I have long suspected that milk products are problematic, but Calcium? I have tried the citrate to no avail. I even tried the cortisone suppositories to no avail. They helped but the cortisone in them takes calcium from the bones so not a long time therapy for me. Now the enterologist is my next step. I see him in October. My doc thinks there is a procedure where something is injected that will help. So I was wondering if anyone else has this problem of severe constipation with Calcium. I am off the calcium until I see the specialist and doing so much better. The fissure is almost gone. But I have to be so careful. If i miss a softener I am in trouble First IC burning and now this. All this time I thought my problem was bad hemmoroids. But the tiny bit of blood that starts the fissure is a sign that the same spot is splitting. Any advice or anyone else in this predicament? Thanks, Carolyn PS This is literally a pain in the a- - ! I feel like I am trading my anus for my bone safety.

Hi Carolyn,

I also get constipation with calcium. I've been taking supplements for the last few days and I have had problems with having bowel movements. I take stool softeners (Colace) and try and eat enough fiber, but still have trouble. I know exactly what you are going through with your fissure. I had one last year that would not heal along with being diagnosed with IC. Both happened within a week of each other. I had to have surgery for mine and then it finally healed. I hope yours will heal on its own. Fissures are extremely painful on top of having IC. :grouphug:

I have to take both colace and extra fiber to avoid constipation. I take antacids for calcium and try to spread them out over the day, which I think helps.
