After an unsuccessful treatment for bladder infection my gyn diagnosed me with IC in July, through the potassium sensitivity procedure performed in her office, as well as taking medical history. (I thought I had an extremely bad infection while on vacation 1200 mi. from home, so the ER doctor treated me as such, even though my urine was normal.) She was very sympathetic to my story, and started me on 200 mg/Elmiron 2x a day. I return to her office in October, as she explained the Elmiron can take a minimum of 3-6 months use to experience relief. She also stated that if I need something more to help with pain, to call and she would help with those symptoms, which I plan to do today. I really do like her and it seems like she is on the right course of action, but after reading your posts most of you are being treated by a uro. With my HMO I can see my gyn without a referral, but a uro would require one. Have I made the right choice? I'd be interested to hear any comments!

Thanks, and hugs ...

Your Gyn sounds like she's on the right track. Unlike my Obgyn! They did a urinalysis and culture, and when it all came back normal, they just referred me to my family physician. Like they didn't know what it was, or just didn't wanna deal with it. So now i have to make an appt. with a urologist. Wish my Gyn would have atleast tried some other tests or atleast talked to me about what they thought might be the problem.
If you feel comfortable with your Gyn. and feel she's doing a good job with your case. Then i don't see why you would have to switch. I wouldn't unless she/he referred me to a urologist for further tests.
