You'll have to discuss this with your Urologist and your OB/GYN (and any other docs who prescribe meds for you). You may get different answers from different docs so take a list of your meds and get all their opinions. Then you and your husband can weigh the pros and cons and choose which meds to stop and which to take as needed.
I am trying not to take any meds for atleast the first trimester. I stopped Elmiron, Ambien and a few others. I do take Keflex (antibiotic) to prevent UTI after sex. Both my Uro and OB approved that. They both also said I could take Pyridium sparingly if really needed. For flares, my Uro suggested bladder instals of Lidocaine.
The good news is that my IC isn't that much worse considering I'm off my meds. I'm mostly experiencing a moderate flare, but frankly the morning (all-day) sickness has made me so miserable, the IC is secondary at the moment.
I too have the same question now. I am on imipramine, and my ob said to stop, and my uro said to continue. Personally I will take the stop advice. We plan on trying in December, so in Oct I plan on stopping the imipramine. I am too scared to take anything. Good luck. When are you going to TTC

I agree that you will probably get different answers depending on who you ask. My uro told me to continue my atarax and imipramine, but to stop the elmiron instills. My ob told me to stop the atarax and imipramine but that elmiron was okay. Who to believe?? So for many months I did nothing except take OTC pyridium. I have flared so badly during almost my entire pregnancy so I went to them both again and asked about meds. My ob rechecked about the atarax and said to go ahead, especially because I was in my 3rd trimester. She also assured me that elmiron would be safe because it is catagory B, the same as tylenol, and because it would be instilled. (I still haven't resumed the instills. I'm so big and pregnant that I don't have the energy to mess with it!) I will have to reevaluate the med situation when I start breastfeeding. You can read here on the guest lecture series that Dr. Parsons recommends elmiron and heparin instills for his pregnant patients. I was also given darvocet when I was flaring very badly. Overall, I cannot tell that I am any better after resuming the atarax, but at least I feel like I'm doing something. I am praying that I will be better again after I deliver. The baby's head is resting right on my bladder, according to my ob, which cannot be helping the situation any. Best of luck to you. Hopefully, you will not need meds or will find something that you can take.
