I've been reading the posts regarding some of the allergy meds people are trying. I was curious-has anyone's urologist prescribed Zyrtec, or any other prescription allergy med? Or, is this something that I would need to approach my family doctor about trying? I was just wondering if many urologists were open to having their patients try meds like Zyrtec. If some are giving the prescriptions I will ask my uro about it. Thanks! :)

I began taking allegra about a year ago (for fall allergies!) and have found that it has helped my bladder tremendously. My urologist thinks it's fine to continue with it as long as it's helping. In fact, the fact that I responded so well to the antihistamines is what got me officially diagnosed with IC. Good luck! I've read others have had good results with zyrtec.

Hi there! I was originally on Zyrtec for occassional breakouts with unexplainable hives. I only took it as needed. Once I started reading up on IC and discovered that daily use could be a benefit I decided to take it on a daily basis before bed. Within days I began to notice improvements especially with getting more sleep at nights and less pain. I was between urologists at the time - so when I went to the new one - he was pretty responsive to the use of Zyrtec. He decide to put me on a couple other meds and suggested Atarax instead of Zyrtec as it is an antihistamine that is commonly used with IC. I personally like the atarax and it's also less expensive then the Zyrtec. I would definitely suggest talking with your doctor about the use of an anthistamine and see if it works for you too.

Good luck!
Take Care!
