I don't know where to put this so I will just try here.
Has anyone applied for short term disability after the diagnosis of IC? I tried to apply recently and told them about the IC and diabetes. I was turned down. I have been checking other places and not getting anywhere. Anyone have any ideas of what to do next. I can not get it where I work.

If you're talking about purchasing a disability insurance policy, the only way to get this kind of coverage is through a group plan, such as through employment. Insurance companies will almost always deny any application where there is a pre-existing condition.

Thanks Donna. That is exactly what I was talking about.

Ginny,

I am currently on short term disability through my employer. It was a BATTLE with the std carrier. However, I finally WON the battle. I know that if you are denied std insurance through your employer, you can do an appeal....I don't know what the process is...but you may want to find out about the procedure if you haven't done so already. If you want to PM me, I will be glad to give you the "low down" on my experience!

I didn't have any trouble with STD but that was because I was recovering from an OOMPHERECTOMY (love that word). When I went to long term, through work, it sucked. I fight them every three months. They actually said they had a table that showed an IC patient should be recovered in 70 days. Hell, I hadn't even been diagnosed at that point, it was just being considered...they hadn't done the formal tests. Now I have lawyer hired to help me with SS (Which LTD requires) and although I got the big rejection on the first time (which he said is verynormal, they do that on 90% of cases w/o even looking at them, he knows cause he used to work for them), they feel that my case is good. All my docs have sent in forms saying that I'd miss 4+ days of work/month. That's considered extremely disabled so once I go in front of a judge he/she will just say OK;
