I guess this is a flare for me, not sure. I've been taking Elimiron since the end of June, about two months now. The last couple of days my urethral burning got very bad. I feel like swapping myself inside and out with vaseline. It feel like the inside of my urethra and bladder is extremely dry, and it burns. That's the only way I can describe it. I don't take any other prescribed medicine, but I did try some Tylenol today and it didn't help. I haven't eaten or drank anything differently either.
My period is late, 37 days since last, and last month I had two periods two weeks apart that lasted several days long. I usually do get more burning before the period, but this is the worst it's been. I'll probably have to call my urologist if this keeps up.

Sorry you're feeling this badly; I'm going through a similar experience. I get the urethral pain and burning. I think I'm having my first flare since being diagnosed on March 30th. I've been on Elmiron for 5 months, and was actually feeling better in July, then this happened. I was on antibiotics at the end of July into August, and that's when all the problems started. I'm a week or so late with my period too! I'm sure you know the burning tricks: 1/2 tsp. baking soda in water, tums and calcium. It takes the edge off the burning, but it still doesn't go away. Hope we both experience some relief soon! :yikes: liz

Sorry to hear you're hurting, connie! Everytime I read one of these messages I'm painfully aware that 'There but for the grace of God go I'!
It's even worse when you haven't at least had the pleasure of eating or drinking something you shouldn't have! Do you think it could be a UTI? I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry you are having a tough time, it might be a good idea to check in with your Dr. Hopefully you will be doing better soon.

I do agree that checking with your doctor is a good idea. You just might have an infection brewing.
Warm healing thoughts,

Thanks for the well-wishes. I doubt that it's infection. See, I've only had two bacterial bladder infections in my whole life! The last one was almost 20 years ago.
I drank a lot of water today. Some lady at my job (one of the tenants) brought in plate of brownies and they sat right in front of me at lunch and I didn't touch them.
I forgot that I had started taking Marshmallow root and Pau D'Arco tea, so I'm elliminated them one at a time to see if that helps.
My husband thinks my symptoms are from second hand smoke at the karaoke bars. We only go about once a month. Ohio still has smoking in all the bars and most of the restaruants. Anyone have any thoughts on that one?

I'm doing a little better. I started to take Amitriptyline again and after just two days, I have less burning. I didn't have to use ice today. I just hope my doctor agrees to another prescription, after I finish this one.

Just thought I'd let you know that I tried the marshmallow tea and couldn't tolerate it. It may have been the cause of your flare. Glad you're starting to feel better.

I stopped taking the Marshmallow Root (I have the capsules). I wonder if that was it, but it's hard to tell. Like today, I was working by myself in the office all morning at it was very stressful. When I got home, I felt more burning. Stress definately seems to trigger this.

I started to take the Elavil (Amitriptyline) again along with the Elmiron. The Amitriptyline is making it less severe. I started taking half of a 25 mg. If I can get by on that along with watching what I eat and drink, I should be fairly comfortable. I can still feel burning, but I can also keep my mind off of it a little more.

I hope it lets up soon for you. I got myself one of those gel icepacks, when I am at home and "feeling the burn" the gelpack is my best friend ;). (((HUGS)))
