Okay, I've actually known this HUGE news for a couple weeks. But I've been waiting to share the news until I got thru another appt. I had an ultrasound this AM. I'm 10 1/2 weeks and both babies are doing great! We had been concerned about something called Vanishing Twin Syndrome where one baby can miscarry and be reabsorbed. But the Dr says I'm out of that danger zone now.
OMG! :bouncy: We are both absolutely thrilled and excited. And tomorrow my hubby's parents arrive and we get to tell them the BIG news in person. They are gonna be shocked and ridiculously excited.
BTW I still have all-day morning sickness and I'm severely fatigued. My IC is flaring. But I'm deliriously happy!

That is so wonderful. I have twin stepdaughters (adults now) and they are still a joy to watch --- and they have a special relationship that is totally unique to twins.

Do you remember the chewing gum advertisement jingle (or am I just showing my age?): Double the pleasure, double the fun...? Twins...what happy news. :woohoo:

Oh Melanie, that is so great! I got teary-eyed reading the wonderful news! Do twins run in your family? Or your husbands? Did your doctor mention having a c-section or are you going to try a vaginal delivery? I remember months ago you mentioned that you were going to try to start getting pregnant-I bet you didn't expect this! How neat. :)

Hi gang. Thanks for all the love and congrats! I'll try to answer all the ?'s.
Yes, this is our first pregnancy.
Yes, it was a BIG shock to me. But my hubby actually predicted it. He thinks that strange/unique things happen to us. When we first saw the ultrasound screen, he looked at me with this "I told you so" look on his face. I was very surprised. But then a few days after we found out, I had spotting and was worried I might loose one or both. So I realized quickly that I really wanted both of them!
Yes, I do have some distant fraternal twins in my family. One set was boy-girl, would have been my great-great aunt & uncle. But they died as infants in Yugoslavia. I also have some distant cousins that are fraternal girls.
Hubby doesn't have twins in his family. But from what I've read it only matters only maternal side.
It's possible they could be identical which is more of a fluke than a genetic thing. We'll hopefully find out whether they are fraternal or identical over the next several months of ultrasounds. But sometimes they don't know for sure until after delivery and tests are run on placenta(s) and/or babies. My hunch is fraternal, but my drs hunch is identical. I've been wrong about pretty much everything. :lmao: Hubby also predicts 2 boys. I don't care which genders. But a boy/girl fraternal combo would be cool.
Right now I mostly focus on the benefits and advantages. Mostly being that I may only have to do this pregnancy thing once. I'll stress more about the challenges later.
Vaginal or Csection is often determined by the position of the babies. If baby A (closest to cervix) is head down, then my Dr will attempt vaginal. In this case, if baby B is head down then we are good. If baby B isn't head down, then sometimes the baby can be delivered breech or sometimes the Dr can turn baby around. My Dr seems confident about vaginal. She's had twin cases that have gone well that way.
Worst case scenerio is that I delivery A vaginal and B has issues and I have to have C section too. ICK!
If baby A isn't head down, then I'd have to have a C section. I won't know these things until 3rd trimester.
My due date is March 25th, but twins usually delivery early. So the goal is to get to 36 or 37 weeks. It's more likely I'll be put on bedrest. One day at a time....
And we weren't using any fertility drugs. And I'm only 30. (fertility drugs and higher age often increase chances of twins).
What neat news! I hope all goes well! :woohoo:

Congratulations to you! A double blessing!
I once read a quote somewhere (don't remember who to give credit to, sorry!) that said "A baby is God's way of saying the earth should go on." Twins is doubly so.
Congrats! :lmao:

Hi,
I havent posted here in a very long time. MY IC has been under control since my cystoscopy and hydrodistention about 4 years ago. Problem is, we're trying to get pregnant and the vitamins are irritating my urethra. Before it gets bad, I discontinue so I dont end up feeling any pain with urination. Now that I have had a laparotomy for a different issue my bladder is extra sensitive. Do any of you take pre-natal vitamins? Folic Acid? If so, which kind? I'm scared if I dont take Folic Acid or something I'll have an unhealthy pregnancy.
Thanks,
R

That's very exciting, Melanie! I have twin nieces that are 11 years old. Have you heard of the "Twins Days Festival" in Twinsburg, OH? It's the world's largest annual gathering of twins from all over the world. You can read about it at Http://www.twinsdays.org. My nieces go to that nearly every year.

I am taking folic acid with no problems or IC flares. I've been taking it for many months now. Look for a folic acid vitamin that doesn't have any extra dyes, additives, etc. I take Nature's Made availabe at most drug and grocery stores.
As for a prenatal vitamin, look for a vitamin that doesn't have the extra junk, dyes, additives, etc. Also look for something that has a LESS acidic form of vitamin C (like ester C). Vitamin C (acidic form) is a big NO-NO for ICers. I take New Chapter Perfect Prenatal (check out their website) and I buy it at Whole Foods. It does NOT flare my my IC. But it is giving me nastier nausea, so I'm only taking folic acid right now. Hopefully in a couple wks I'll be able to recontinue the prenatal.
