I took elmiron (more than a year ago) for about 3 months and I kept having diarreha and some hair loss. I am not sure it was the elmiron, i had some other problems with my diet then. I just recently had a month remission, it is gone now but I want to give the elmiron another try????? Anyone try it more than once, does it really take 3 months to work? How do you know??? I think it could possible help me to get more remissions or at least keep it undercontrol! :)

I have heard someone say that trying elmiron a second time went a lot better...no side affects that time. It usually takes atleast 4 months to work....but some have claimed 2 weeks (not sure if they were right to elmiron the credit)...For me when elmiron started helping I started feeling better...and than more better.

I think it is a good idea to give it another try. Good luck. I sincerely hope it goes better for you. Good luck on a continued remission!!!!

6 - 12 months is the time frame you usually hear for Elmiron to kick in. I began to notice a difference at 2 months. It really varies for each person, but I definitely think it's worth another try. Good luck! :)

I think it's worth a try, especially if you're not sure it was the elmiron that caused the problem. You do need to allow up to six months or more for it to be effective. And if you experience side effects, you can always stop the medication.

Warm encouraging hugs,

Elmiron began working for me about 3-4 months into treatment. :)

Give it a shot again! It can't hurt, as you can always stop again if the side effects return. Good luck!!

Hi Angela

I have tried Elmiron several times. It works for my IC but I get terrible stomach problems with it. The longer I am on it the worse the diahorrea gets, to the point I am going about 10 times a day. The first time I took it, it took about 4 months to work and then the diahorrea started. At first I didn't know it was the Elmiron and had lots of tests before we realized it was the Elmiron. I took it for about 18 months at that time, then after a year I tried it again only this time taking it out of the capsule. Again after 4 months the diahorrea started. It stuck it for as long as I could but had to stop taking it in the end. I moved back to the UK 2 years ago, so I thought I would try it here too. I took it for only 2 months when the pains and diahorrea started again. i have tried taking it all ways, with food, without food, in the capsule and out of the capsule but I am just one of those people that seems to suffer with it. I hope you are lucky and can take it, it is worth a try again. It did help my IC so I wish I could take it
