Elavil 25mg twice a day?

Hi everyone,

My doctor prescribed Ultracet for my pain on Monday. I was taking only 1 pill every 6 hours and after I took the second pill I had bad side effects. Dizziness, heart racing, nausea, etc. So, today my doctor has prescribed Elavil. He wants me to take a total of 50 mg per day (25 mg. every 12 hours). I was reading through postings and never saw anyone who was taking Elavil like this. I have only heard people taking it at night before bedtime. I am also scared about being started on 50mg. I've been reading that 25mg is the usual starting dose. I would appreciate any advice or responses about this. Thanks so much!!

Hi I am one of the gals taking the 25 mgm of Elavil at bedtime, and it has helped me a lot. I am also on 10 mgm of Ambien as well, so any higher for me on the Elavil, and I would be sleeping all the time. I know sometimes it takes adjusting the meds as we all react differently to them.
