Was SO nervous! I was shaking like a leaf...my legs were shaking so bad we had to stop in between. The catheter hurt, but not as bad as I was preparing myself for. The potassium burned, but almost hurt worse was the water AFTER the potassium. She said it felt worse because the potassium irritated the hell out of my bladder. she also put heparin in my bladder, but i peed it out, directly after, so it didn't do much good. She started me on elmiron, atarax, and elavil. I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere with this. Thanks to everyone for listening to me freak out about everything!

I'm glad that it's over and that your uro has started you on some promising treatments. Now, rest up and take good care of yourself. And let us know how things go with your new meds.

Thanks, gals. I am feeling a bit more hopeful, now. smile.gif
P.S..I used to be on Detrol, but it caused retention - that was no fun....
And they told me if, after a while of trying these drugs, it just isnt helping, then we'll think about self cathing and dmso treatments. Yikes. So if that ever happens, I'll be here, freaking out, again!!!
Hey, if I ever have to self-cath or do DMSO I will come along for the freak out, too. wink.gif

Before you get to the "freak out" point about self catheterization, let me know so I can give you a pep talk. It's really not difficult.

I agree with Donna, its not that bad once you set your mind to it. I have been self cathing for about a year I think, It hurts a heck of alot less when you do it yourself than when they do it. Plus you can take your time, do the instills when its conveinient for you , and be able to empty if you are retaining. You can do it! If you need us, we will have some suggestions for you. Hugs, ICNNINA
