I was just dx in July with IC. For the last 6 weeks I have been taking ditropan xl and been having heparin cocktails, I started taking zoloft 2 weeks ago.

I have been experiencing heartburn for the last 6 weeks, something I have never had a problem with before. I have been taking tums which helps a little but not for very long before the heartburn returns. I don't even have to eat anything to get it either, it just seems to always be there.

Do any of you have a problem with heartburn and if so what do you take?

I get a lot of heartburn, and right now I take Pepcid Complete whenever I need to... however, it sounds like you are getting it really badly and really often, so you should discuss it with your doctor. There are pills they can prescribe to help with that, and they can rule out any serious problems at the same time.

Good luck!! :grouphug:

Definatly see a doctor....You may have GERD and the stomach acid is causing it...but you should definatly get diagnosed. I myself take Ranitidine and Prilosec OTC...I am very sorry you are suffering like this. Sometimes are bodies just seem to make a big change huh? I hope you feel better soon....

It's most likely the Zoloft. Depression meds tend to give me heartburn too. I've been on Celexa and now Prozac and both gave me heartburn. My doctor gave me a perscription for Prevacid (heartburn med.) which I take 20-30 minutes before taking the Prozac and I don't get the heartburn anymore.
However, since you have had this problem before you started taking the Zoloft I suppose that is ruled out : S
Either way, Prevacid works

I take 40 mg of Prilosec and prelief but doesn't seem to be doing the trick. I have tried some other things that don't come to mind right now. Darn this brain fog amkes me forget sometimes. Anyways I would get that checked out because it can hurt your esophogus. I hope you will feel better soon. Take care - Chris :)

Definetely see your doctor...a few years ago I was on Zoloft about 2 weeks after I had started to take the meds I was getting bad heart burn...then one day (when I was at the hairdressers) my heartburn got so bad that I thought I was having a heart attack (I;m only 25!!!). I went to the hospital, and they said that one of the main side effects of Zoloft is gastrointestinal problems...needless to say I went off of them right away and I have been on Celexa for 2 years now with little or no side effects

Tums can be very good for helping with an IC flare, but it sometimes has a "rebound" effect. Our doctor suggested that my husband stop taking the Tums for his hiatus hernia heartburn for that reason. I, on the other hand, can take Tums with no problem. I do agree that a visit to your doctor is a good idea.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

I, like ICNDonna's husband have the same hernia and I take Prevacid every day! I have been for the last 4 years or more. It works. But only if I don't get crazy and eat fast, eat large amounts, spicy foods, lots of chocolate.

See you doctor for medical advice. There maybe something else going on.

Take care and may angels watch over you.
