can't go to the bathroom

hey all,
i have a little concern. i had a colonoscopy last wed and now i cant go number 2. the doc said that my bowel movements would return to normal in 3-5 days today is the 5th day. i feel so constipated. ive never ever been constipated and i threw away the laxative because i didnt eer want to take it again but now its scarring me because i cant go. it feels like its building up and that cant be healthy for me. anyone have any suggestions?

if nothing happens tomorrow, call your doc. see if they'll let you try citrucel to get the stuff moving.

That happened to me after laparoscopy surgery. The doc gave me a couple of options. Not fun, but not too bad either & felt so much better. Yep, call the doctor.

I know after having one of my surgeries that happened while I was still in the hospital. The dr. had the nurse bring me a small glass of warm prune juice. Doesn't sound like much, but boy does it do the trick. Not sure whether it would affect the IC though...that is the ten million dollar question. Good luck sweetie. Hope you get some answers tomorrow EARLY.

I agree that you should call the doctor who did the colonoscopy if you don't have a bowel movement within the next few hours.

Kim, sounds horrible! When I was a kid I was hospitalized for constipation and prune juice is what I had to drink every day. Give it a try! It's pretty yucky!

hey all,
im feeling a little better. i took some exlax last night because i was desperate and felt like crap. so i woke up this morning feeling like crap hadnt gone yet. then i went to the toilet to see if i could go and the only thing that came out were little hard pebbles and they had some blood in them still. i didnt feel like i was done so i sat there in pain trying to get everything out and i felt it start to give and whoosh everything came out and it wasnt diarrea either. anyway i feel a little better but i hope that i wont get constipated again. thanks all for your help. oh and ive had prune juice before and all i have to say is yuck. if i get constipated again i'll call my doc and see what he recommends. thanks again

If there is blood after a colonoscopy and that isn't anormal symptom for you you should call the number on your release sheet and possibly go to ER. Make sure you tell them. I hope you are all better Kim!
