I have had IC for two years and am managing it through elmiron and other drugs. I had the bladder installations (numbing treatment) twice and it created excruciating pain during and after treatment!!! The numbing solution did not work for me at all, all the treatment did was cause severe pain. My doc said that less than 1% of patients find the numbing treatment does not work. Why would it not work- does anyone have any thoughts on this? Also, the initial test done the same way where they inject potassium and water into your bladder to help diagnose me, hurt the same way, I could not even tolerate regular water! My case is mild, and I was suprised at how painful this was.

Bonnie,

I don't know how to answer that. i wish i did. What type of numbing medicine did they use? I used heparin and marcaine at home. I did the treatments myself. At times it seemed like they worked then at others it felt like the symptoms just went away by itself. I don't know that I'm a believer in them instills anymore. I'm looking into some other things. Pm me if you want to talk.

Do you know what the solution was that your doctor used? If it was DMSO, it's not unusual for the first few treatments to be very painful. I know mine were.

I hope you soon find a treatment that works for you.

Warm hugs,
