Can IC be genetic? Are there any cases where women with IC have a child who develops IC?

I don't know if we can use the word genetic safely or not BUT I do believe my mother had IC and went undx.
Plus Cindy's mother has IC. so personally I think it could happen but not in all cases.

Yes....I know of one other case for sure than who Rhonda named.....with the wide range of people I know that is still a low percentage.

Unfortunately, I am fairly certain that my 11 year old daughter has IC. I didn't develop IC until 6 years ago, at age 41. My mother may have had a milder ic. She always insisted it was due to having four children but I am not convinced of that. I have worried and worried about this and am so upset that she is getting it young. We see a uro. next month. Hopefully getting on some meds early will help her.
Hope :cat:

I am the only one in my family with IC. I have a daughter who is an adult and has never had any symptoms. Both of my parents were from large families and none of my aunts or uncles had IC or IC symptoms.

As far as we know, IC is not genetic. The number of ICers with family members with perfectly healthy bladders FAR outnumber those who have a family member with an IC diagnosis. My mother and I have been both diagnosed with IC (she has hunner's and I have petechial) and both of our urologists say it's a big coincidence. I agree.

I have IC, My Mom has IC, My mom's sister was just had a hydro and ah hasn't gotten the results, her daughter's dr is weighing the possibility she has IC, I have 2 cousins on my Mom's side with IC.. My daughter pee's b4 school and when she comes home never in between, and I am jealous of that... So I do believe that there is some type of a genitic connection. But....... it's never been proven..

This was published several months ago. It states that, while a genetic link is highly suspected, it has not as yet been proven.

I have an aunt with IC also, but I son;t think there is any proven study that it is a genetic disease.

I always wondered if IC ran in the family. Hopefully more research can be done to find this out. Chelsey
