aantol73 have you changed your name??? or have I totally lost it... What meds dose your doctor give you for it... I will have to go back and talk to him.
I often have very dry itchy eyes, or, they just plain hurt.. I also get dry patches in my mouth and throat. I'll be talking and start coughing so bad I can't stop. I do that till I nearly throw up.. just thought it was me...

My eye is beat red, and the pain is undescribely horrible.. when I move my eyes I get horrible pain. When I am in any type of light I get shooting pain thru my eye and into my head.. I can't look out a window or open a door. If the sun is out and with sun glasses on it still kills me and waters like nigera falls... I went to the dr's because my friends told me it sounded more then just pink eye...

ok now I have to get off.. because I can't stand the pain looking at the pc..
any advice would be great..
Brat

took me 10 mins for this post .. lol.. checking for mistakes..

From what I have read Sjogren's Syndrome is more common in IC patients...I don't know much about it but I am sure that there must be tons of info online about it...

Another thing right?? Sorry!

I'm never far from my antihistimine eye drops. Some mornings I wake up so bloodshot I look and feel like somebody beat me in my sleep. I gotta warn ya, when you first put the drops in, they sting like crazy (I use Opcon) and they'll make your nose run, but in a couple minutes, I feel lots better and some days never have to use them again. Some days I use them several times. I've never found a pattern why, but I started using them about the same time I went on the Elmiron. My optomologist just said it was allergies, but the answer is never that simple with us, is it???

Brat, did you see this study already? If I had both Sjogrens and IC I think I would bring this to my doctor and ask for a trial of these meds...

Severe interstitial cystitis associated with Sjogren's syndrome.

Nephrology Center, Toranomon Hospital, Tokyo.

A 53-year-old woman presented with oliguria, urinary frequency, abdominal pain and severe edema of the lower extremities. Her serum creatinine was 8.1 mg/dl. Computed tomographic and ultrasonographic studies showed a severely dilated urinary bladder, and bilateral hydroureteronephrosis. Examination of a urinary bladder biopsy specimen showed subepithelial edema and infiltration by lymphocytes and plasmacytes. However, the patient complainted of dry mouth and dry eyes. Ophthalmologically, the Schirmer test was positive. A biopsy of the minor salivary glands in the lip showed chronic sialoadenitis. A diagnosis of Sjogren's syndrome complicated by interstitial cystitis was made. Since she had been anuric, secondary to urinary obstruction, intermittent self-catheterization was started. Combination of corticosteroid and cyclosporin therapy was initiated. Spontaneous urination began, and gradually the patient's symptoms remitted. After 8 months of therapy, bladder capacity increased from 140 ml to 350 ml, and she voided approximately 1,200 ml by herself and 600 ml by catheterization daily. This case suggests that when severe interstitial cystitis is associated with Sjogren's syndrome, a therapeutic trial of corticosteroids and cyclosporin may be beneficial.

My husband's eye is all red & swollen right now. I think that he got into some poison ivy over the weekend when he was cutting down brush.

My eyes always hurt & are dry & my eye dr. said that I have a problem making tears. He recommended that I put a warm wet washcloth over my eyes a couple times a day. It helps. I would give it a try if I were you.

Peace,
Karma

As a long time very dry eye sufferer (my eyes produce no lubricating tears due to Sjogrens), I can totally relate. Before the doctor figured it out, I also had very dry, painful eyes that hurt frequently... especially when driving or working at the computer. But, I now just use lubricating tears several times a day and I'm fine.

Stay away from Visine or any of the cheaper, generic tears that have polyvinyl alcohol. They sting badly! I like Tears Naturale II or Bion Tears.... which I buy in bulk at Costco. I always have a bottle in my purse and keep one on my nightstand. I wake up atleast two or three times a night to put these tears in my eyes.

BTW... I did try the tear duct plugs. They were too irritating for me.

Just a few things that work for me. I have terrible time with dry eyes that is associated with my Behcet's Disease. Any way, she is right to not use the visine but do get the natural tears name brand. They are a little costly but so worth it. Also, there is an excellent ointment that is in the eye drop section. It is for severe dry eyes. I put it in my eyes at night before bed. It is awesome and makes the difference between night and day!!!
