Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing well (as well as we can be!) OK, I have a weird question. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I take a bunch of meds for my IC. Lately, my short term memory is shot. Someone will tell me something, and by later that day, I don't remember what the person told me. I find it very frustating ( so does my family ). I am just not sure if it could be med related or if I am just loosing my marbles!! :lmao: :dizzy: I will probably give the doc a jingle tomorrow, and get his input. Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have! :grouphug:
Hi Sheri,
Could be the meds, so calling your doctor is a good idea!! If it's not...
Pain & stress also can affect short term memory. Yes, I've had that happen. There is just so much to pay attention to with IC - what to eat, where to go, what to wear, how much & what to do. Being careful all the time takes thought & energy so there's less attention available for other things & people sometimes. It does get easier with time as more becomes automatic & you learn what works & doesn't for you.
Hugs, wishing you better days soon,
Kadi

I agree with Kadi....I find that my short term memory is a lot better than when I first quit working........now the IBS diagnosis has slowed it a bit as I learn new things but otherwise doing better in that area.
I don't know what all kinds of meds you are on....but I know when I take my strongest pain pill understanding and memory go down....I know if I have taken that and something important is said it should be wrote down.....sometimes makes me wants to record doctor appointments.
Hope things get better.

I agree it could be meds. Stress can also do it. I do think it's a good idea to discuss it with your doctor.
Sending healing thoughts,

I agree with everyone else. I know I say wacky things and get my words confused at least 3-8 times a day. I even get my kids names confused sometimes. I think it is definately a combo of meds, fibro, and stress for me. I hope things are clearer for you in the future. Even if it is something harmless I bet you will feel better just asking your doctor and making sure it isn't anything else. Take care - Chris :)

Thanks for your replies to my post. I do think some of it is the Methadone...I cut my dose in half cuz it was making me way to loopy (if that's possible) Again, thanks, you guys are the best!

Just wanted to add that my memory was shot for about 2 months when the worst of my symptoms were at their all-time high. I wasn't on any meds so I am guessing that it was from the stress of having chronic pain. The body's defense mechanisms kick in and it can be taxing on just about everything, including memory. Take care.

Short term memory -- what is that? LOL. Mine is absolutely shot!
Medication, stress, not enough rest, a chronic illness, and anemia can all cause problems with short term memory. I suffer from severe anemia due to hemmorrhaging Hunner's ulcers. I have a hard time remembering things and a harder time trying to get out what I need to say. I can think it, but getting it out verbally -- what a jumble. I often joke that "I need to stand on my head to think," so the one, little, oxygen carrying, red blood cell that I have left in my body can travel to my brain and allow me a thought process.
What a life!! :lmao:
