Hello all-
I was using REVIVAL soy protien drink and was really thrilled with it as it controlled my IBS, gave me protien and sent me off with energy each morning. However, I did have urgency for the first couple of hours.

Recently, I had a horrible intense flare after years (5) of 'controlling' symptoms by diet. I was desperate as I had never been so bad. I had been on Revival for 2.5 years and with this last flare I eliminated everything but rice, meat and allowable veggies for these last 2 weeks. I am finally being able to feel relief and go out. I'm not sure when to re-introduce things. I have heard that soy may not be good for IC'ers now, so hesitate to start back on it.

Does anyone know whether or not soy is a typical problem? my IBS is daily now that I'm off revival and my sister suggests metamucil but I'm affraid that it might be acidic.

Is soy ok? Is metamucil ok? :help:

Each of us is different, but I do take metamucil daily with no problem. It's about the only way I can get enough fiber in my diet. The big thing is that if you want to try introducing something back into your diet is to do it one at a time and in small amounts at first. Then if it doesn't cause a problem, gradually increase the amount. With my allergy children on elimination diets, I waited at least several days before introducing anything new.

Some ICers find they cannot tolerate soy or anything with soy in it. Others find they have no problem at all with it.

Warm hugs,
Donna

Confused About Soy?

High levels of phytic acid in soy reduce assimilation of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. Phytic acid in soy is not neutralized by ordinary preparation methods such as soaking, sprouting and long, slow cooking. High phytate diets have caused growth problems in children.
Trypsin inhibitors in soy interfere with protein digestion and may cause pancreatic disorders. In test animals soy containing trypsin inhibitors caused stunted growth.
Soy phytoestrogens disrupt endocrine function and have the potential to cause infertility and to promote breast cancer in adult women.
Soy phytoestrogens are potent antithyroid agents that cause hypothyroidism and may cause thyroid cancer. In infants, consumption of soy formula has been linked to autoimmune thyroid disease.
Vitamin B12 analogs in soy are not absorbed and actually increase the body’s requirement for B12.
Soy foods increase the body’s requirement for vitamin D.
Fragile proteins are denatured during high temperature processing to make soy protein isolate and textured vegetable protein.
Processing of soy protein results in the formation of toxic lysinoalanine and highly carcinogenic nitrosamines.
Free glutamic acid or MSG, a potent neurotoxin, is formed during soy food processing and additional amounts are added to many soy foods.
Soy foods contain high levels of aluminum which is toxic to the nervous system and the kidneys.
