I have just been told that I need a rectocele repair and I wondered if anybody else has gone through this procedure and what affect it had on their IC?
The Gyn doctor said I would be in hospital for 6 days, for 2 days I would have my vagina packed and a catheter in place because they don't want the bladder to get full.
Any advice from anyone having had this done?

Hi Dixie and Katrina
Thank you for your replies. I haven't scheduled my surgery yet as I am waiting for a rectal exploratory op too. My gyn wants me to have that done first and then we will schedule the rectocele op.
I am going on vacation to Florida's Gulf coast in September, so I will certainly not have it done before that. I have also been told I must do nothing for at least 6 weeks maybe more. I didn't know it was such a major op and my rectocele isn't as big as they get yet. He has suggested I have it done now before it gets any worse.

Hi trays mum,
I have had the rectocele repair, about 2 years ago secondary to a horrible labor and delivery of my daughter. I also had a fistula at the same time. The surgery wasn't bad. I was in the hospital for 2 days. I hadn't had the IC diagnosed yet. I would be happy to answer any of your questions at all.
Hugs,
Barb

When I had a rectocele repaired, I had the surgery one day and was discharged from the hospital the following day. They removed the vaginal packing before I came home. I did have some drainage for several days.
I was restricted on lifting for quite a while. The surgery wasn't bad at all.
