Antispasmodics--Levsin SL

I had a check-up with my urologist this morning. Basically I think they forgot that they had not seen me last year and so this was the first time I had seen him in 2 years.

We went over everything I had been doing medication wise and discussed everything. One of the things I am still not satisfied with yet is the antispasmodic I use when I get a flare.

I had used Detrol both regular and long acting. I can use the regular which is 2 mg. but still have some trouble with retention. So I asked if I could try Levsin. I believe the generic of this is Hyoscyamine. I am hoping that it will not cause the retention that I sometimes get with the Detrol. The kind I got will be sublingual so that it is absorbed fast because that is what I need when I have a flare. He subscribed 5 because he had no samples and then if it works I just contact him for more.

My visit went great. He said my urine was clear and that since I was doing so good to not rock the boat and do anything different. I just think the world of this urologist. He is so willing to work with me and even though he doesn't work with IC patients as his main specialty he knows about it and will try anything I want. God bless this man.

Anyone out there on Levsin that can tell me anymore about it would be great.

Hi Jolene. I took it for years after my IBS dx. I thought I'd have to take it for life to keep from getting ibs flare-ups. When I became pregnant in '01 I stopped it. And I have to say I haven't had to start it again so far..... And that's been 2 1/2 years...I hope it helps your ic.....I remember it never caused retention or anything else...
