So I guess this pain I have been having afte my cysto is probably a UTI, form what you ll tell me. So if I do have one I really really don't want to have to take another prescription! So is there anything natural I can try for it, to get rid of it? Something that I can find at a health food store tomorrow. I'm trying to avoid medicines as much as possible, and to try natural things instead!

I am not sure about natural treatments for infection hope someone can help... Have you checked with your doctor? Did you get a urine culture? Hoping your feeling better soon.

No I haven't had a culture yet. But a lot of you on here seem to think it is a UTI I got after my surgery. I might go in to the doctor tomorrow, not sure though cause I know he will try to give me a prescription, or I might just go and get some natural treatment and see if I can find anything to help it that way. Trying to get some ideas of what might help. Hope I can get feeling better too, don't wanna live off of these pain pills!!!!

I don't know of any natural remedies for infection. When you are taking herbal remedies, even if they are "natural" they are still medications. If you do have infection, your doctor may hae some samples to give you --- I suggest you ask.

the only natural treatment i know of is cranberry juice, which would surely irritate your IC bladder (ouch!). although i'm positive there are herbs for UTI's; maybe do some online research and then bring what you find to your doctor?

:) Hi fellow sufferer!!
My warmest sympathies to you becuse I have read many of your posts...
I suggest you try a naturapath or herbalist if you would like a herbal UTI tonic. Mine makes one for me with Juniper berries, dandelion, corn silk and some anti viral herbs like Cats Claw, Echinacea etc. However, it's trial and error really... it hasn't worked for me yet but I do not suffer bacterial UTI's so a tonic to prevent bacteria sticking to my bladder probably isn't the answer for me. Garlic (raw or supplement) is also supposed to help but I am NOT a herbalist so please investigate for yourself. Drinking Barley water is also supposed to be a natural anti inflammatory and prevent UTI's. (You boil up pearl barley until it is about 50% evaporated than drink the rest.)
Hope you get some help soon.
Warm thoughts,
Sara
Hi, I did the barley water treatment for a while, when I was going through a bad spell, it did help me, but I was also on meds as well to help out. Iris. :hi: :flower:

(A note from ICNDonna - Neither the ICN, nor any other IC organization in the world, has recommended this book. It is one patient's opinion.. not backed by research. We recommend "The Interstitial Cystitis Survival guide" by Dr. Robert Moldwin as a more reliable option. My apologies, but, for legal reasons, we must add this to any message posted on our boards which recommends this book.)
There was mention of colloidal silver in Cathereine ****** book, to wake in tears about her use of that as a natural anti-biotib and an anti fungal. I have not asked my holistic Dr about it yet..... I am waiting to do a broth culture with Dr F but of course I do have a real UTI now treating it with levaquin, until tomorrow.
Good luck!
If you haven't I would seek out a holistic Dr, it has been so far the best results for me. I do have my bad days, but I am learning a lot of de toxifing my body and how toxic it is and why I am dealing with so much IC pain. (((((HUGS)))))

I have heard that you can use 2 alka seltzer for the start of a UTI. I have used it before and it has helped. I don't know if you can use anything like that with IC. I have my doubts. If this sounds stupid, I apologize I'm new. But as I said it does work if you aren't dealing with something else. Has anyone ever tried it? I would be interested to know what they think. Another thing that is soothing, is a cup of tea made just with cinnamon about 1/4 tea. with a sweetner. I don't know how that works in with the IC diet but it does help wit bladder spasms. JUDY G
