good afternoon everyone.....got some bad news lastnight....found out my grandma has uterine cancer. Shes been having prob for a couple months with bleeding and cramping and shes 77. well they did a DNC and got the results back yesterday. now we are waiting to here from the cancer unit to see when they will be doing the total hysterectomy.....they wont know the outcome or extent of the cancer until then. Her uterus has extended into her stomach which is not good. Shes such a optimist you guys you wouldnt even think she was told she has cancer. But thats part of her prob because she waited so long to get checked out. Me my mom and aunts camped out with her lastnight. I brought her flowers, brushed her hair (i use to do that when i was little she loves it) painted her toes. It was fun and nice to get her mind off everything. she has suffered many things in her life time, she got polio when she was three which left her on crutched for the rest of her life, had an alcoholic husband who died 5 yrs ago to a stroke but bless her heart she never goes without a smile. shes in great pain daily but you would never know it. i really look up to her and i just pray and if any of you pray could you please pray for her to no matter what happens just let it be peaceful, no worries, no fears no long drawn out pain and that the surgery will take care of everything so she doesn't have to have chemo.

I also now am wondering if my sx are of ic at all. I went to my gyn before i had confirmation on grams and when i had the exam the pain i was having when he pushed he said was coming from my uterus. i gave him the info on my grandma and told him the docs think she has cancer and that my mom and aunts all suffered from endometriosis SP? which they all got hysterectomys for. so he said let put you on the pill and if your sx get better it might be endo. but i called and left a message today stating given my grans results that lets go ahead and do a laparoscopy (sp) to make sure because ive also had the dizziness lightheadness on and off, weakness all over, exhausted after i do the littlest things, cramping pain down there the bladder prob as you all know, discharge and sluffing of skin when i go to the bathroom as well sometimes and not when im on my period long periods lasting 10 14 days. so now im concerned that it might be something other than IC or maybe overlapping. Its hard to know because ive been given a diag of fibro too which everything has pretty much the same sx ya know. so please pray for me as well as her to figure out what the heck is going on thanks guys hope all of you are doing well take care love hopeful

Hopeful,

Your g'mother sounds like a wonderful lady and a big part of your life. I'm so sorry to hear of her dx. I could just picture you brushing her hair and painting her toenails, etc. and imagined her smiling because I did that once for an elderly friend in the hospital and she really loved it. I had a hysterectomy at 29 due to endometriosis. Your symptoms sound like that may in fact be what is going on, so I'm glad you are taking an agressive approach and asking for lap. Take care and keep us informed on both you and your g'mother.

You're doing the right thing by getting everything checked out. The problem with multiple symptoms in that area "down there" is that it could be many things, one or a combination of things, which makes diagnosis very difficult. Try to have everything checked out and tests done for specific things. Good luck to you and your wonderful grandmother. Katy

wow thanks guys for the quick response i love this site......donutgirl wow 29 for your hysterectomy huh. Im 28 did you get the chance to have kids? Ive had one so it would be ok if that is what it came down to. does endo mimic some of the ic sx? My gyn said some of the prob in the vaginal arear, uterus and ect can cause bladder sx too. by all means i dont want any of this but i think id rather have endo have a surgery that can help then have the cancer or ic but knowing my luck i have them all hee hee....anyways i will keep you all posted i spoke to a nurse today and told her i want the doc to order the lap just waiting his reply if i dont get anywhere with him ill go to my pcp and demand it. take care love hopeful

Hopeful... I'm very, very sorry to hear about your grandmother :grouphug: But she sure is lucky about one thing... she has a great granddaughter like you! :) I loved reading your post about how you brushed her hair, etc. I live thousands of miles from both of my grandmothers (one lives near Boston, MA and the other lives even further north in New Brunswick, Canada -- and I live in Memphis, TN :( ) and so I don't get to see them as often as I'd like... but when I'm home I do this same thing with them. They are both 90 yrs old but still love to have their hair done :) Once a lady, always a lady :)

[B][I] I am so sorry to hear about your grandma.....she sounds like a very strong woman. My grandmother was always like that as well. nothing ever got to her, no matter how bad. I try and draw my strength from her. My mother had uteran cancer and had a complete hystorectomy and recoverd and her cancer luckily hadn't spread anywhere. I hope and pray your grandmother will be ok. and you as well. i think you shouldn't wait either and get everything checked out you feel you need to have checked. keep us posted. They have found a lump in my right breast that they said had changed and grown since my mammogram last year. The radiologist told me to wait six months and see what happens to it. My grandmother had it twice , my very close cousin had both breast removed cause of it, another couisn died. Theres no way i am waiting six months. I talk to a surgeon thursday. its really sad that you have to demand and pitch a fit to get anything checked out these days. they always want u to wait and see what happens......so you are doing the right thing by checking it all out now......again keep us all posted and i pray everything will be ok.

What a bunch of smart, proactive women! My mom had uterine cancer and surgery took care of it, no chemo. I had endo and a hysterectomy at 23; IC not diagnosed until age 38, along with fibromyalgia. I also had a lump removed from my breast at age 19, and nothing ever came of that. But I made the decision to take it out. It's easier these days to get a doctor to listen to you. Hopeful, all my best for the wellness of your grandmother and for you. Glad you're taking steps. Keep us informed!

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother:grouphug:. I can say I understand your grandmother, you see I am also a polio survivor and we have a bad habit of not going to a doctor as often as we should. It is something of struggle, for all polio survivors, and many are working hard to change within ourselves.

But the reason I am writing is see if you know about the Cancer Treatment Centers of America? They saved my Dad's life when he DX with cancer late 3rd stage. It is the most amazing place I have ever seen. Depending on what the test results show you might look into it and discuss it with your grandmother and the rest of your family. I will be praying  for her and know that God will be with her every step of this journey as well.
