I haven't posted on here in forever and actually had to change my username as I couldn't remember it. I am 17 weeks pg and wasn't even suppose to be bale to get pg as I polycystic ovarian syndrome. Anyways the same time I was dx with that I was dx with IC!!! I have had 2 bladder distentions(sp) and have been in remission for 3 years now, since my last surgery and dmso treatment. I was dx 8 years ago. Anyways in the last month I have had 2 uti's. I have been drinking plenty of water and what not, but can't seem to keep these away. It is getting very irrating as I don't present with normal symptoms..no burning when urinating..just pressure and cramping. Every uranilysis comes back with e coli bacteria. My question is has anyone else dealt with us or do you have any advice on how to keep the uti's away. My next step will end up being a urologist and since I'm new to the area..I have no idea who is good. My old uro is like 4 hours away!! GRRR!! In advice would be most appreciated!!
Thanks,
Jennifer

The doctors has said all threw my child hood i could never carry a baby full term and would miscarry if i even got preg. well :lmao: I have three children but was high risk threw out my preg with all of them because of those nasty UTI. and was in the hosp more then i was home with each preg.
all this was before i was dx with IC.
:yikes:
your doing right by drinking lots of water.
are you wareing 100% cotten panties? that seemed to help me.
wipeing from front to back
your ob/gyn should be able to handle these nasty uti by putting you on a low dose of anti. i had to go threw that with all my children and as soon as i tried to come off of them i got another uti:(
Please let us know how you are
sending you hugs and prayers

Thank you for your reply!! Yes I'm wearing cotton panties and I try to remember to wipe front to back. My dr has me on macrobid yet again for the infection. He also said to make sure to take a shower after I have sex. I was making sure to pee before and after as i was told that helps alot, but apparently not enough. It seems so unnatural to get up afterward and take a shower..like it takes the intimacy out of it...but if it will help, then I guess I'll do it. I'm so glad to hear that someone else has been where I am now...not that I wish this on anyone else, but that you can relate and have some advice. Again thank you and I will let you know what happens. Xing my fingers in hopes this goes away and stays away.
ALso does anyone think azo tablets or any cranberry tablets work, as drinking the juice really isn't an option because of all the sugar in it?!

jennifer,
Cranberry juice is a big NO-NO for ICers.
All of Rhonda's advice is excellent. I also take a preventative antibiotic after sex. I take Keflex. Both Uro and OB agree it's safe during preg.
During sex, try to avoid positions that put pressure on the urethra and introduce more bacteria. I shower before and after. I also ask my hubby to shower (or atleast wash up, especially hands) before sex. And pee before and after.
Hope your UTI goes away fast!

I know cranberry juice is a big no no for icers, but i figure the pill may not have all the acid in it. Also I have been in remission for a few years now and haven't had any flares and I've drank both oj and cranberry juice in the last 4 months, just not in excess because of the sugar in it.

WELCOME BACK TO THE BOARDS!! Azo tablets for a uti do help me with the symptoms....but I would avoid the cranberry juice ones. I have heard some people say that they can handle them when they have an infection because they help the infection though....up to you. Congrats on your pregnancy!!
I hope your pregnancy goes well and you don't have to suffer through too many infections!!

Thank you for the reply Katrina. I was thinking more along the lines of hte azo tablets anyways. I just need to ask my dr. if they are okay during pg. I'm assuuming that i'm in my second tri, it wouldn't be as much of a problem as if I was in the first tri..where they want you taking no meds. We'll see what happens!!
