So what's in those capsules, anyway, that make them mess up stomachs and heads. What is is like to take it without the capsule? I have been having bad stomach and upper gi pain lately. Getting all the right tests and it is probably IBS, but I also wonder if it is the elmiron. If the elmiron or capsule causes stomach aches, is it cumulative? I mean, whould it persist even if you didn't take it that day if you have been taking the elmiron for years? I didn't have side effects of the elmiron, but think the stomach/upper gi thing might have developed slowly along with the elmiron. Any opinions? Does this post make sense? :dizzy:

Thanks

Hope

Hope,
I thought at one point that the Elmiron capsules was causing a problem. I mixed the powder in a small amount of water. It's certainly worth a try.

For me, it turns out my probs were more IBS and Dairy issues. Switching to Lactaid milk was the key for me. good luck figuring out the issues.

Elmiron has almost no taste at all. I don't bother mixing mine with water, as I feel that it would end up sticking to the glass more then getting into my bladder. I empty the capsules right in my mouth and drink a glass of water with them. I've had good luck doing it this way.

So you're saying that it's the actual plastic capsule that bothers the stomach? Elmiron really tore my stomach up when I first went on it, so my doctor told me to take it with food. I do, and it works great on my bladder with no trouble to my stomach. But now you have me wondering if maybe I shouldn't discard that nasty plastic anyway.

If I understand the composition of the capsule correctly, among other things, the capsule contains lactose. For those who are lactose intolerant or sensitive, this could cause problems.

I agree with the others, there is no taste to the med when taken out of the capsule. Taking it this way isn't a problem.
