Hi there Ladies
My name is Kate and I live just outside of Toronto, Canada. I have had IC for many years but am just recently connected into the ICN.
I am currently pregnant with my second child (almost 15 weeks) and with first baby my IC was not too bad during pregnancy. However since I had him (2years ago) It has been terrible (I had a very complicated vag delivery which didn't help) Anyways I have been in to the pain clinic at Mt. Sinai Hospital (well-respected pain clinic in Canada) and the neurologist is suggesting I try taking Dilaudid (hydromorphone, I'm not sure the other names in the U.S.) I just don't know what to do? Have any of you taken theis medication during pregnancy? I plan to breastfeed again and I don't know if it is okay afterwards as well. The neurologist was very confident it is safe and I have to discuss it with my OB first. (I think she will hate the idea)
I just don't know what to do.....the pain is terrible, but I am so afraid of taking something that is adverse for the baby.
I am a registered Nurse and I know a fair bit about meds.....but it is different when it is about my baby.
sorry for the ramblings.....any thoughts??
Your help is so greatly appreciated
God Bless
Kate

I think you're being wise to discuss your concerns with your ob. I hope you feel better soon.

Warm healing thoughts,

Kate...

Congratulations! I can definitely relate...I am seventeen weeks pregnant, and my IC has been worse than ever. My high risk OB has me on Percocet 10, every six hours. He actually has insisted that I continue on it, as he says it is safe for the baby, and is concerned that my IC will get too out of control if I try to go without it. I had to go off the Detrol LA and Elmiron, so...
Obviously, the best thing you can do is talk to your OB. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Unfortunately, even with the doctor's assurances that it is okay, my nerves are still wracked. But I think that is just part of the whole deal. If you want/need to talk, feel free to PM me. I think pregnancy is so special, and there are things that only other women who have been pregnant understand...in the same vein, being pregnant with IC is something that can only be truly understood by other women who have experienced the same. Take care, and God Bless...
