How many pills? I only take one.

I started elmiron last week. The thing is the information that came with it says that the dosage is supposed to be three a day. My doctor only has me on one a day. Should i say something to him?

I would definitely ask him...I take one in the morning and two at night which my doctor says is ok. I started taking one three times a day but it was too hard with the empty stomach thing. It seems that most people take at least three a day.

Even though I have "mild" IC, I was still prescribed Elmiron 3x a day, 100 mg. That's the standard dose, I believe.

I agree I would ask your doctor about it but wouldnt up the doses without his okay he may be just trying you out on it to see if you will be able to take it.

I started on 3 a day but get by very well now on just one or two a day. Once the Elmiron builds up a synthetic lining in the bladder, you can ususally cut back. Many people can even go off the Elmiron for months at a time, almost like "remission." I've done it, and your bladder lets you know when it's time to go back on them. ALSO, if it bothers your stomach to take it on an empty stomach (it does mine), I have just as good results taking it with food.

Never heard of just one a day. Sorry please ask your doctor. I stared one, 3 times a day, than went to 2 pills 3 times a day.....and I know of may people that are taking it just twice a day....but never heard of just one pill a day.

Agreed. 3 x 100 mg per day is pretty much the standard dosage, and many people will even take more. Ask you doctor or, even better, go to the elmiron website (www.elmiron100.com , i believe), print out the information, and show him.

Yes, I know 3 a day is standard, but many in my frmer support group who take it were able to cut back after a few months. The Elmiron coats the inside of the bladder, and after you've built up a nice lining, you can often pull back a bit. My dr. says Elmiron actually causes a "remission" of sorts, allowing many people to go six months on, six months off, and that the longer you've been taking it, the longer the remission lasts. I've been taking it for 7 years now and have had occasional remissions, one for as long as a year.

I wonder if the dr is seeing how you react to it first before giving you the whole amount? hmmm I wonder. I would ask.

I would think your dr. would do it the other way around: start you on 3 to build up some good, and then ease off a bit when your symptoms start to subside. I agree with the others, double check with him/her. It's entirely possible that your dr. misunderstood the doseage.
