I am newly diagnosed with ic although I have been suffering for 3 years. I was put on Elmiron. My uro also told me about something called Theralogix. Has anyone ever heard of Theralogix? I would also like to know if Elmiron has helped anyone, and how long did it take?
Thanks

I haven't heard of Theralogix... do you have any idea what kind of thing it is?

Other than that, :welcome: to the ICN... I'm sorry you have this dreaded disease, but I hope you have a great doc who can get you started on therapies that will make you feel great once again!!

Theralogix is actually vitamins. You have to have a referral from your doctor to even order it. Anyway, it is supposed to support a healthy bladder lining. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried it.

I definitely understand where you are. I was just diagnosed the end of May after 3 weeks of intense pain and numerous ER & Dr's office visits. My pain was increasing worse during that time. I've been on Elmiron since then, but the Uro. I was going to is not very "versed" in IC, so he said he was glad we finally diagnosed it and to come back to see him in 6 months. I couldn't believe my ears. Anyway, each case seems to be different...all we can do is share and hope to learn from each other. I did a lot of research and found out that one of the top IC specialists in the US is near me in Greensboro, NC. He is on the board of the IC Assn. and people come from all over the US to see him. Anyway, he is wonderful! He listened and actually heard what I was saying. He added several prescriptions to my treatment and set me up for instillations 2x a week for 6 weeks. This week will be my 4th week. I was able to return to work for a couple of weeks with a pain level of about a 5 (on a 1 to 10 scale), but my pain has returned to a 10, and maybe sometimes a 12. I am back out on disability. I have the same questions you do about whether this will subside for me and what I can expect, but like I said, it seems each case is different. My hubby and step-son went to a church reunion today, which I was unable to go to. He met a lady there that had a 2 yr. flare where she was in a good deal of pain and could barely function, but has been pain=free for about 2 yrs now. I think if we can just post and email others and know that we are not alone, that will help tremendously. It's tough when we don't know exactly what we are facing. Please feel free to pm or email me at any time.

Prayers and warm thoughts for a better week for you.

DIANE

Thanks for your reply. I know that every case is different. In my case, I have minimal pain, except for some flare-ups, but the frequency for me is bad. I seem to have to go to the bathroom all the time. Hope Elmiron helps you too!!

I have been on Elmiron for almost 3 years. Along with some other meds it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY and no side effects. I began to notice a difference at about 2 months, but the big changes came closer to 6 months. My uro told me to hang in there with it for a year before going off of it. Fortunately, it helped before that point. But it can take that long for some people.

I am also on Elavil, Vistaril, and Detrol LA --- all for the IC. Then I am on Lexapro for anxiety and depression - but it has also helped my IC. :)

I think the Elmiron has helped. I used to have a really bad case with pain all the time and now I'd say moderate to severe but more to the moderate side. I have otherr symptoms that are causing a lot of pain that I believe is not due to IC. I'd say it took over 6 months to see any results. I take a lot of other things too like hycosymine, hydroxine, amitryptiline, prelief ( which helps a lot too), flexiril, prilosec, oxytrol (just started), and off and on hydrocodone for the bad pain (before and during my cycle). I think I am finally starting to see a little improvement but not enough to make a huge difference in my daily life yet. Hopefully soon :) I've nev er heard of the other medicine before. Hope it works for you too. Take care - Chris

Welcome to the boards! I didnt notice Elmiron worked for me until I tried going off it for a while (about a year after I started it). My IC began with frequency and urgency as my main symptoms 6 years ago, and I found Detrol really helped. Now it is just horrible pain all the time. Let us know if the vits work for you....

I also took birth control pills for years and just got off of them 1 year ago, it seems like ever since I have been off the birth control pills my ic symptoms have worsened. I don't know if this is all in my head or what!! Has anyone else experience this problem?

I am also on Hydroxizine,Pryridium Plus but I get sever leg cramps taking that, Amatriptolin,Zoloft for the seritonin and the Elmiron they have me taking 3 times a day.... IC is life changing but here there is a wonderful support. I thank God for this site... We are here for you!!! :)

I have just been diagonsed with IC after 8 years of intense pain, UTIs, and Dr's telling me that "It's all in my head", that I needed to see a shrink. I have been taking Elmiron and Elavil for about 3 weeks now. I'm not sure yet if these medications are going to help me. I'm having good days, bad days, and some really, really bad days.

I can say this though, since I have started these two medications I am not buring as bad when I urinate now :woohoo: Lorcet Plus is my friend Gee hope I don't sound like a drug addict here :hmm:
